Look, I eat a doughnut very rarely, but all these snarky comments ("Free donut (diabetes, stroke and heart disease) day"; ...obesity) are so pedestrian. Of course if you eat a ton of doughnuts you risk serious lifestyle-related conditions and illnesses, but it's free doughnut day. Singular.

Does that mean people will eat just one? No. But specious logical leaps like Doughnut Day = cardio-vascular disease turn my stomach more than the thought of ingesting a fatty doughnut.

Come on, people. Those kinds of statements are (1) really lame, (2) about as valid as those on the other side who use Authority of Experience ("My granny ate three eggs and bacon every day and lived to 98.") to justify eating whatever they want, and (3) add so little to public discourse on comment boards... even on a trite topic like this one.

We've finally got 'em here in Istanbul, and a welcome break from Turkish bread they are, too. The Turks cook some good food, but have never heard of pastry, Danish, and never, ever put a grain of sugar in any bread item.

Oh come on now with your hootie tootie statements about Krispy Kreme donuts being somehow inferior... IT'S FREE and SUGARY and if you're lucky, HOT. Sure, I like a good donut from a local bakery (Nord's in Louisville, KY, if you're ever in the area) but this is FREE.

There's a Krispy Kreme right down the street from me... yahoo!

I haven't had a doughnut in a while. I might stop by and get a tasty originally glazed for old-time sake.

If I'm going to waste my calories on a commercial donut, I'm at least going to find one that's excellent. I had one of my favorites when I visited Marlowe and Sons in Williamsburg area of Brooklyn and the baker made apple cider doughnuts-wow!

Wow. The closest location for me is 76.29 miles away. Hmmmm...I wonder if the gas money spent will be worth the free donut :/
01:30 AM on 06/04/2010
That locator is bogus. There are two in neighboring towns, but the locator insisted on giving me locations anywhere from 52 to 367 miles away ...
01:32 AM on 06/04/2010
... and NOT the neighboring towns (should have specified that)

YEAH!!!!! Free donuts!!!!!!!
