Gerardo Regalado, a man implicated in a Miami-area mass murder on Sunday, is the half-brother of former Major League pitcher Orlando Hernandez, according to the Miami Herald.
The shooting in Hialeah, Fla. reportedly left the gunman's wife dead along with three others. The shooter, who police say completed his rampage by killing himself, allegedly only targeted women:
Police said the shooter bypassed at least two men when he fired at the women inside. Three women were hospitalized in critical condition, Hialeah police Detective Eddie Rodriguez said.
"He went straight for the women," Rodriguez said.
The Miami Herald reports that Regalado shares the same mother with Hernandez and "has been mentioned by Hernandez in stories about Hernandez's life in Cuba before he came to the United States."
Hernandez defected from Cuba in 1997 and pitched for the Yankees, White Sox, Diamondbacks and Mets. He is currently a free agent.
