First Posted: 06/07/10 10:37 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 05:40 PM ET

Former Top Chef contestant Spike Mendelsohn (of Season 4, set in Chicago) appeared on The View last friday to make the ladies his well-regarded "Obama Burger." Spike's restaurant, Good Stuff Eatery, is in Washington, DC, home of Top Chef Season 7, premiering June 16).

The "fan favorite" Obama burger features bleu cheese, applewood smoked bacon, red onion marmalade, and horseradish mayonnaise (here's Spike's recipe).

I love Islands, their whole grain buns and veggie burgers are the best! And you feel like you are spoiling yourself!

I have to say Spike always entertained me on Top Chef. I wonder what other concoctions he has recently created.

While he was entertaining he was not Top Chef in my opinion, and he is cashing in on his 15 minutes of fame.

Does Obama have anything to do with this? Did he ever eat one or endorse it? It isn't clear from the article. Is there any reason that any of the ingredients should be associated with him? I know he stopped for fast food a few times while campaigning, but that was the last i heard about him and burgers.

I was thinking the same thing. Exactly what ingredient would cause it to be an "Obama" burger? I think it is a publicity stunt, strictly for fame; And it did get him on The View!

Excellent sounding recipe, and the directions seem easy.

I do think you could replicate the taste (but not the texture) using Vegan ingredients, and I'm going to try this weekend (black bean mix instead of beef, tofurkey bacon, faux blue chees)
