Huffington Post   First Posted: 06/07/10 04:36 PM ET Updated: 05/25/11 05:40 PM ET

Kerry Sanders from The Today Show takes a flight around the Gulf on a Coast Guard helicopter for a one-of-a-kind aerial view of the Gulf oil spill. Sanders talks about being surprised not only by the oil sheen stretching as far as he could see, but being able to smell the oil when hovering 500 feet above the surface.

I think the most dramatic coverage of this tragedy has been through multimedia mediums such as video and pictures. Have you seen the twelve live footage cams of the oil spill? May be of interest. http://cbt20.wordpress.com/2010/06/04/watch-pbs-real-time-feed-from-the-gulf-oil-lea/

LIKE BP, LIKE GOLDMAN: TOO BIG, NO REGULATORS, EXPECT MORE DISASTERS! SEE THE AUDACITY OF G.O.P. FREE MARKET POLITICIANS AND YOU TOO JINDAL : THEY THINK THAT DRILL BABY DRILL AND FREE TO SCREW EVERYONE MARKET PHILOSOPHY SHOULD REIGN, AND THEN GET ANGRY AT THE RESULTS. We need not just more real progressives to win this time around, but also to give these idiots that see the results of free market-no regulation –trickle down-regressive tax policies and continue on their wise course some wisdom (this includes Cheney, Palin, Glen Beck, Rush Limburger) -- the only way they can get it: a brain transplant. So its the workers and Obama's fault. IMHO it is BP and their executive officers who made poor decisions. BP should pay for the mess they've made and if it destroys BP and their share holders in the process, too damned bad. Stop subsidizing the oil industry! We didn't subsidize the buggy whip or carriage business when cars replaced horses. Big Oil has outlived its usefulness and it is time for them to GO!

Why not have some free-markets fanatics sweep the oil slick with a broom and a shovel.
That should teach them!

The media, BP, the government and people in general need to stop calling this tragedy an "oil leak".
A car leaks oil onto the driveway.
Water leaks from pipes.
You can have a leaky roof.
This is an OIL GUSHER a mile beneath the surface of the water.
It is NOT "leaking" into the Gulf, it is bleeding profusely into the Gulf.
It cannot be compared to the Exxon Valdez because even the Exxon Valdez held a finite amount of oil as bad as it was.

This is a horrific tragedy for the Gulf region. For the people. For the wildlife. For the environment. For this country. BP made billions in profits last quarter. They are concerned about paying their stock holders. The company and the stockholders need to be concerned about using their money to start making this situation right even though, in reality, it will never be right. And the effects of the oil and the dispersants will be with us for many years to come.

Stronger regulations.
Requirements for relief wells to be drilled in concert with main wells.
Requirements for multiple blowout protectors.
Higher liability caps.
A CITIZENRY WILLING TO FORGE AHEAD WITH ALTERNATIVES TO OIL DESPITE THE HYPE.

We cannot escape the use of oil. It is part of our lives in more ways than we are even aware. However, that does not mean that we are incapable of greatly reducing the demand. Are we willing to do what it takes???

Read somewhere that a hurricane could pick up oil from the gulf water and rain it down elsewhere... ?

And somehow BP thinks it can recover from this bad image they have created? No. Let us NOT forgive, let us make them an example to EVERY oil company out there as to what happens when you forgo safety equipment for just a tiny bit more profit. And let's not forget the other parties involved either.
07:34 PM on 06/07/2010
Exactly right. AND we cannot let them forget that 11 men died due to their greed and negligence!

BP warned last year a bigger spill was possible

You think the Deepwater Horizon spill is bad? You don’t know the half of it. BP’s June 2009 regional oil spill response plan for the Gulf of Mexico describes an “expected worst case scenario” that would dwarf the current disaster, dumping up to 250,000 barrels per day into the Gulf of Mexico.

The response plan was originally written in December 2000 and was last revised in June 2009 byThe Response Group of Houston, Texas. A redacted version of the plan was obtained by New Orleans freelance writer and blogger Karen Dalton Beninato, who posted the entire 582-page document online Friday.
