George Stephanopoulos' Georgetown Mansion Sells For Less Than Asking Price (PHOTOS)

First Posted: 06/08/10 07:33 PM ET   Updated: 05/25/11 05:45 PM ET

George Stephanopoulos and Ali Wentworth sold their Georgetown estate to Alan Adler of Chevy Chase Trust, according to The Washington Examiner.

But Stephanopoulos had to settle for Adler's final offer of $5.45 million, which was close to $1 million below Stephanopoulos' asking price of $6.35 million. Stephanopoulos also agreed to pay an additional $42,000 to repair an elevator, among other issues, according to the report.

The Examiner reports that "Stephanopoulos was eager to close the deal," and that the family plans to move full-time to New York City's Upper East Side on June 15 "for his gig on Good Morning America."

Wow, $42,000 to repair an elevator, good think all the other elevators were in good working order.

It's hard to believe that anyone living in a house like this (for a family of, what - four?) has a clue as to what the rest of the country thinks or has to deal with. But am I merely stating the totally obvious?

Obvious but I think worth stating anyway.

Why blame the guy...he has worked for what he has. Give the guy a little credit.

There is work, and then.......there is work. George doesn't have a clue what the ordinary citizen is dealing with today, and neither does 99.9% of the DC crowd. If these people did they would stop making deals with the elected officials to gain access. If the media in total did their job, no one would have to kiss rear to get a seat at the next white house dinner, or get an interview with an elected official. Then the voice of the people might be heard over the clatter of the DC machine.

Amazing house, wonderful colors, love it. The two living rooms are a little redundant on the colors though. Decorated perfectly for the architecture and neighborhood. Classic and sophisticated, it looks like Carey Grant or Kathrine Hepurn might walk in.

I agree about the color scheme redundancy, but I kept wondering to myself if anybody actually ever lived in that house let alone have children. I mean how many pillows does one family need?

Do they have children? It sure looks like a 'adult' house. It is quite formal, something Jackie Kennedy would have designed and loved. Pillows are for the way they look, nothing to do with need!
It is a house that reeks of "we have many servants" and you'd need them. It looks like a show house, Just perfect.
I am the type of person who wants different bright colors in every room, so I love to see a house like this, a bit more subdued. Maybe the two living rooms are adjacent so the need for color conformity?

That is a shame. It seems everyone is subject to a weak housing market. Glad it was sold George. Good Luck!

I did not like that house, the sitting areas did not look to be comfortable, the kitchen was too small the master bathroom only had one sink that I saw, the master suite looked to small even though it seem to have a sitting area the front of the house just looked like a brick building it had no type of curb appeal that I could see, I just did not like anything about the house.

The covered patio is my favorite. The rest of the decor looks like the home of retired hollywood star, not like a younger couple out and about.

$1 million less looks good on George St...... Never forget his appauling performance at the Obama/Clinton debate. He's a wannabe talking head. In other words: an opinion seller dressed up as a journalist.
12:16 AM on 06/12/2010
He is exceptionally good at sitting on the fence on every issues and not ticking off either side so as to keep his place at the head of the table. I wonder if he really does have any honest opinions and would ever have the moxie to let us hear any of them.

NevaforLeadership: GREAT COMMENT. You captured the REAL George. He's really only a notch or two above Fixed Noise.
