The Coloradoan:

The city of Fort Collins has settled Timothy Masters' civil rights lawsuit against the city for $5.9 million, City Manager Darin Atteberry said today.

"While Tim Masters has achieved some measure of justice as a result of this settlement, he would gladly trade all the money for the return of ten years of his life behind prison bars and ten years before that of living under a cloud of suspicion," said his attorney, David Lane of Boulder.

What kind of a “justice system†sends an innocent man to jail for 10 years, fights his release every step of the way, then refuses to admit wrong doing or apologize after a settlement? Outrageous injustices in this case are so numerous I’m surprised Tim Masters is still sane. The video of him being interrogated as a teenager is especially heartbreaking now that we know he was telling the truth, yet will be forced to endure unimaginable pain for years to come.

Here is a list of Lessons for Living in America....

* The Real Truth is always what you make it up to be and always should make you look good
* Always use other peoples' money to pay off your debts or penalties
* If you find yourself being "looked into" always get your best buddies to do the "looking into"
* Always remind people that you are doing your very best even if you are not and know that you have made a mistake
* Surround yourself by people that think just like you and will cover your frequent mistakes
* Others make mistakes and shall be held accountable - this should never apply to you
* Remember that everyone else should do as YOU say and NOT as you do [this is much easier if you hide what you really do]
THIS is the MOST IMPORTANT LESSON of all:
***ALWAYS and IN ALL WAYS, NEVER NEVER NEVER admit that you are wrong or made a mistake

Everyone has soooo much to learn - except us.
Be very careful! It is soooo dangerous out there! Fear is good.

Your "friendly" authority figures,
The Judges, The District Attorney's Office, The Sheriff's Office, The Police, The Lawyers, The Insurance Industry, Corporate America...et al

This is one example why people have no respect anymore for those in law enforcement..! And they don't even have a modicum of decency to apologize.....just too many egos involved....

The arresting officer is found to have concealed evidence from Masters' defense and tampered with witnesses. HE should spend some time behind bars, but the city believes he acted in "good faith." Good for Masters, I hope he has a happy life. I'm surprised he's staying in Colorado.

The thing is, DNA is not as determinative as we would like it to be. He might be a non-secreter. He might have been very careful. The investigators at the scene might have inadvertently destroyed evidence pinpointing him. Or he might be completely innocent and wrongly accused. Now the case is closed, so we'll never know.
