Old Lady's Google Pac-Man Problem: Hilarious Tech Support Call (VIDEO)

Huffington Post

There's just so much to love about this.

Concerned senior citizen calls tech support to have Google's Pacman game disabled because it's interfering with her studying. Techie tries to tell her it will go away the next day, and all she needs to do is close the offending tab. Old lady has no clue what he's talking about. Techie hilariously spends 5 minutes explaining to her how to close the open Google tab.

But wait! It's also really sweet. The techie is very nice throughout and the woman is so appreciative at the end.

Some choice quotes are below the video. Play Pac-Man here.

WATCH: (H/t Julia)

Techie: It'll go away tomorrow.

Woman: So I can't study today?

[...]

Woman: Are you in a hurry? Can you stay with me?

Tech: No, I can stay with you.

[...]

Techie: You're using firefox, right?

Woman: I would assume.

[...]

Woman: How many calls did you get on this?

Techie: This is actually the first one we've got.

This was very cute, the tech support guy was really nice. I used to be a programmer and I have to say this was not that bad years ago I got a call from a customer who just had their new computers and software installed the day before and she explained that last night at the end of business she had everyone log off and turn off their computers, so far so good, the next morning she couldn't get a response from the computers and she was calling me to ask if she should TURN THEM ON. I'm no longer in the computer field and don't miss it one bit...

My late husband was always the "go to" guy for computer problems where he worked. I remember overhearing a coversation where he had to explain to a woman how to insert the disk into the disk drive (This was back in the days of floppies). He was very nice, but, rolling his eyes because he knew that it was going to be a long one.

I started at age 11, (I'm now 43), so I've used every version of Windows made, every version of Mac OS made, and most Linux distros - over the past 32 years. When I started, everyone had a desire to learn, to seek knowledge and share it, but now so many people equate their computer on the same level as their dang toaster. It's not the fault of technoklogy that makes it difficult to use, it's the user who refuses to have an open mind and a willingness to learn, to do things differently. I've seen some complete idiots and some complete genius at all ages, all demographics, from all industries.

The problem isn't the computer. the problem is all-too-often in the mirror.

Reminds me of the call I once had when we rolled out PC's to replace the old "dumb" terminals. A few days go by and I get a call from a user. "I broke the cup holder on my computer." ??? Cup holder? I ask. "yea, the expendable cup holder that pops out when you push the button on the front". Oh my...what an interesting conversion that turned out to be.

That's such an old joke. I must have heard or read some variation of that several hundred times since the early 90's when CD-ROM's became standard.

I never said it was a joke. It was a call assigned to me after returning to the home office from the pc/network implementation trip I made down to Orange, CA.

I just finished reading this post and listening to the audio and I wanted to say how uplifting and positive it was! This was a very unusual and funny situation from start to finish. The tech knew it, the author of the post knew it, and I believe the caller knew it by the end of the conversation. What made it uplifting and positive is that the humor came through so clearly and it wasn't at the expense of the woman who didn't understand how to do something.

The internet is portrayed (and rightly so in many cases) as the place where all are more then ready to BOUNCE on those who know less or don't 'get it'. It was so refreshing to see the level of respect shown by everyone connected with this article. Some people may think THIS is a silly comment, but to me this only proves the point that we can smile and laugh at a situation without haven't to humiliate or destroy those involved.

I laugh when I think back to the first time I bought a wireless router -- and finally networked my computer to both of my son's computers. It was so hilarious, it literally took hours. It was a little complicated because the television and landline was also hooked up to the modem, --- it was crazy. Their computers are laptops -- and I didn't know that they had to have a connector on their computers to pick up the wireless signals. I thought that as soon as the router was hooked up, magically their's would work. DUH! Dumb me. I finally called the tech support dept of the router brand -- and bless this guy's heart, he was really patient. Believe this -- he took a 5 minute coffee break -- but we managed to get the computers working. Then my son comes home, and literally told me what I should have done -- step by step! Computers can be complicated. To realize the generation before us didn't have them. and our kids are complete wizards at operating them.
It's amazing. Just think, 1980 wasn't THAT long ago. And cell phones were uncommon. Kids now have soo much. Growing up, we knew we had to be home before the street lights came on -- and now, the kids have it all - - phones, computers, WII, games -- you name it!

It does seem like we've come such a long way. I think back to the first "Lethal Weapon" movie and I can picture Danny Glover lugging around that big bag phone that was "state of the art" at the time. No way was THAT going to get lost in the couch cushion!

I hate to say it but the world will only change for the good once the greatest generation is resting quietly in a grave somewhere.

I has thinking more of when the 60's berkeley hippie generation moves on, the country will change for the better.

I'm ashamed to admit that as I was setting up my computer speakers, I plugged the color coordinated wires that went from them to the wrong outlet on the back of my computer tower. I couldn't figure out for the life of me how to make the sound work. I bought so many 'fix-it' cd's -- then finally after about a week, I bought an entirely different set of speakers. As I was plugging them in, I noticed that my other set had been plugged into the wrong place on the back of my tower. I felt so ashamed. I knew, right then, what the problem was. As soon as I inserted the speaker wires into the right outlet on the tower, BAM! The speakers were so loud, they scared me! I felt like an idiot -- and that's just what I get for being in a rush to set my computer up! And the worse part was the wires were color coded, so it was essentially error proof! Foolish me!
(I joined so many Computer Geek chat rooms, it was insane! I couldnt' figure out what was wrong, and I went through so many steps -- just to find out it was a mistake that was so simple!) ☺

This is cute. I used to work on telephone support in the 80s and 90s. One time i was working with a lady.. I asked her... "Do you have Windows open."... She said. "yeeaaasssss... how did you know that". I then asked her to "close windows..." and she said, "Ok..".. I heard her walking around the room shutting windows, she comes back a minute later.... "Ok, windows closed. Now what do I do".

I used to love callers like her.

Awwe, bless her little heart. She was so sincere and sweet. I feel ashamed that I was chuckling to myself at the beginning of the call . . .she sounded like my grandmom. I am proud of her, though, she was studying! So sweet, so very, very sweet. And he was absolutely wonderful and patient.
Thank you, tech support, for being so kind to her.

I am glad he was so polite to help her, she sounded so sweet and this technology is difficult for older people. One has to hand it to her for using a computer and learning online.
