BP Logo Redesign Contest (PHOTOS)

Huffington Post   First Posted: 06/10/10 09:53 AM ET   Updated: 05/25/11 05:40 PM ET

LogoMyWay.com is holding a contest challenging designers to recreate BP's logo. The contest requests that the designers' new logos communicate the toxic nature of the oil spill, the death of wildlife, and the incompetence shown by BP. The winner, which will be chosen through public voting, will be awarded $200 dollars.

Here are 12 redesigned BP logos currently entered into the contest, which ends this weekend.
Check out the contest website to see the other entries and vote for your favorite there.

Number 3. The "blast from the past"

And to any of you who tried to take pics on the shore, interview $10/hr workers, THIS image is what I think that BP would want to do with you. Right?

Other than that, this is what BP is metaphoricallly doing to us. No. Wrong. This is what Big Oil, Big Banks, Big Energy, Big Pharma, Big Health Care, and Big Corporations in general is doing to us.

Dear America,
Failure to plan for the possible consequences of a business, or actions ----failure to really sit down and work most possibilities will cost,--big bucks! Sure, sure, you may not be able to divine all possible disasters but don't you think that BP could have figured that an oil spill might happen if they drilled oil? The idea that a company thinks it's saving money by not doing the right thing preparing for potential mishaps/disasters --- should be unthinkable.
Businesses need to do this and our government needs to do this with Home Land Security.
I for one hope this is a wake up call for all businesses and people ---- look critically at their business or homes ---- and prepare! "Think tanks" save lives. Businesses and families should have these meetings and be prepared.

I don't know about a new logo, but from this point on, "taking a leak" will be known as a BP.

Now, I will be very careful where to find a bathroom. So I don't have to BP in an alley, on a lawn, or on someone's tree. ;-)

For firefox users, there's an add on that makes oil spills on 'BP' and makes them drip down...even got Palin on one page. http://mashable.com/2010/06/01/bp-oil-firefox-plugin/

Some are sadly beautiful, especially so the one with the bird's head emerging from the slick.
That one may well become famous, will haunt us, as will the ghost coast. I always wondered
just what chowder head came up with the name EXXON. It was as if the double cross
was invisible to them. But it wasn't, now was it. BP, innocuous, neutral, intentionally
invisible and devoid of meaning. Until it wasn't. Will we only have cocktail table photography
books to remember who we were? Kenneth Patchen entitled one of his picture poem books
What Will We Do Without US? The subjects were endangered species if I remember correctly.
I do remember that when I grew up, born in 1940, it was the same deal. Some knew. They
were called tennis shoe pseudo intellectuals. John Wayne was the rage. America was
busily burying itself in asphalt. And boy did we duck and cover. We did everything except
what was necessary. The beat goes on.

Wow, they're all pretty good. The one that is the silhouette of the iconic photo from Vietnam of the man about to be executed actually made me catch my breath.

Right. Every time I see that, I want to save the young fellow in danger and to incapacitate the shooter. But it never happens. The victim dies. (And don't listen to the propaganda that he was Viet Cong smth or other abuser.)

War is bad. This is war against BP. Seriously. The new aggressor is Big Everything.

The US used to be amazed at the brazen corruption of many third world governments. Now that Sensenbrenner refuses to step aside when his financial investments in BP are at risk because the US government may actually take steps to hold the guilty party accountable and Senator Landrieu insists that drilling continue even when the state that she represents may be devastated for eternity simply because the drilling brings in money we are now the brazen corrupt country!
