Carly Fiorina Open Mic Excuse: 'I Was Quoting A Friend' Mocking Barbara Boxer's Hair (VIDEO)

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) ― Carly Fiorina says she was quoting a friend when she was caught on an open microphone making fun of an opponent's hairstyle, just hours after clinching the GOP nomination for U.S. Senate.

Fiorina was prepping for an interview with Sacramento's KXTV on Wednesday morning when she was recorded laughing loudly while describing Barbara Boxer's hair as "so yesterday."

But during an interview Wednesday night on the Fox News Channel with Greta Van Susteren, Fiorina said the words she used to characterize the three-term senator's hair were not her own.

Fiorina added that her own hair has been "talked about by a million people."

The microphone also captured Fiorina questioning Republican gubernatorial nominee Meg Whitman's decision to be interviewed Wednesday by Fox's Sean Hannity. Fiorina called it "bizarre" and a "bad choice."

Fiorina told Van Susteren that she has apologized to Hannity and will appear on his show Friday.

She's progressed from trivial and tacky to a telethon for Carly roadshow.

There has been 3 times the coverage by liberal news networks (everyone but FOX) covering this story about one candidate saying "what's up with that hair" about another candidate, then there has been covering the story of Obama's offer to Sestak to bribe him to drop the race (a federal crime). It is sad that so many here would rather talk about stuff like this and whether Sarah got implants than actual issues. Sad, but predictable as the sun coming up in the morning.

I was a still a carpenter back in the days when Fiorina became CEO of HP. My client at the time was an engineer and, while he was polite as one can be when you're company is being dismantled by new management, he had very long litanies about how Fiorina was driving a once great company into the ground. I was in the process of shifting out of construction and working on my PhD in history at Stanford at the time, and one of the contacts I had for my dissertation was the company historian at HP. She was one of the first departments to fall in the downsizing. This didn't surprise me; Silicon Valley approaches five year old history as just "old history", and they crashed badly in 2000, not remembering they've gone through 10 year boom and bust cycles since the beginning. Historians just remind of us the things we don't like to remember, its seems. Good luck, Carly, but you might remember another multi-millionaire who found out no amount of money can get you elected if you're an empty suit. Uh,....I might be wrong there.

argh! It is so frustrating that instead of talking about issues, Friorina decided to discuss looks. We blame the media for scrutinizing women in power on looks rather than substance, and this is perpretrating the issue. Who cares what they look like? This is not a modeling job they are competing for. Madeleine Albright got it right in the 90s when she said something like "I'm not here to look good, I'm here becayse I have a job to do".
