Colbert Helps Helen Thomas Be Remembered For Something Else (VIDEO)

First Posted: 06/10/10 01:39 PM ET Updated: 05/25/11 05:45 PM ET

Stephen Colbert took to the Report last night to offer Helen Thomas a chance to salvage her reputation and fade into obscurity for a less sensitivity-challenged feat. Colbert pleaded:

"I want to give you a chance to be remembered for something more noble. So come on my show and eat 50 hamburgers. That way people won't think of you as an anti-Semitic reporter, but as the cool old lady with the Guinness World Record for the most beef consumed in an hour."

This is where an older lady and a very young lady (Manson Florida) have something in common, when they spoke what they thought were truthful words in front of the Press, the Issues were made to seem little by a flurry of attackers over words.

First, there are other officials, people besides Helen, who want Isrealis sent back to Germany: Poland Arrests Alleged Mossad Agent: Officials in Germany want him extradited.

The International Laws broken by the Israelis are somehow small things compared to the words of one elderly lady? I suggest they replace her with someone with a little more moxie and not
less. This recent trend suggests that appearances and not issues will continue to dominate
the time of this nation's press, we will all suffer for it.

Colbert is a comedian, where is the joke? Real issues are being ignored so we can belittle
people, one too educated to make this mistake and one not educated enough? Make me laugh
Stephen, and let's hope none of my Polish distant relatives were hiding this Mossad agent!

". This recent trend suggests that appearances and not issues will continue to dominate
the time of this nation's press, we will all suffer for it." Absolute and sad truth of the "reality" show -off generation.

Steven Colbert's calculated politically correct reaction to Helen's knee-jerk reaction is not a bit funny and a little dissappointing. She will be remembered more by her brave lifelong position and less by that silly comment or Steven's sillier suggestions.

And anti-zionism is not antisemitism!!! It's not, it's not, it's not.

While I wholeheartedly disagree with her comments I soooo understand the throw you hands up in the air frustration with this area of the world. Don't you want to just slap the hell outta both sides? Of course I wouldn't ....BB was in the special forces and Id hate to get my butt kicked by a 60 year old man. Helen Thomas has long asked the tough questions nobody else would. The Bushys tried to kick her out for this exact thing. She should be remembered for a lifetime of excellent work and not one incredibly stupid knee jerk comment.

If she waits 2 months and had 5 hamburgers, she'll break the record for the most by a 90 year old.

To be honest, she SHOULD do the hamburger challenge. Especially if they're good ones
