Stop-Motion 'Mario Bros.' Will Blow You Away (VIDEO)

First Posted: 06/11/10 04:21 PM ET Updated: 05/25/11 05:45 PM ET

Wondering what else you can use that large stack of post-its sitting on your desk for? Perhaps you can use them to reincarnate one of the great super heroes in video game history. That's what these students did, and the result is a frenzied journey through this Japanese middle school. It's a wild ride with Goombas and Mushrooms abound. It's also flat-out impressive. Very clever but ironic because this is the distraction kids see at school when they play too many hours of video games at home.

This probably didn't take quite as long as we think (notice that the light coming in through the window didn't change much (at all?) in some of the naturally lighted scenes). Because of the older sprite-based, low rez NES graphics they were immitating, they only needed 3 states for mario to be in (standing still, Left foot, right foot). That is NOT to say that this isn't awesome, it seems like a really efficiently done and excellent piece of stop animation. I loved it!

Where were these kids when I was in school? I mean all they could do with paper was spit balls at my school.

it must have been fun coming up with the idea. fun at the beginning too.

but this is all tedious work, and i bet it wasn't fun for those kids by the end of it.
