Heroic Tortoise Saves Friend With Ridiculously Heartwarming Act (VIDEO)

First Posted: 06/14/10 04:02 PM ET Updated: 05/25/11 05:45 PM ET

When it comes down it, we all want to be like this tortoise. The kind of person that goes around saving lives and doing good deeds just for the hell of it. But the unfortunate reality is that we can't all be heroes. And that's what this tortoise is. (via Unique Daily)

Many years ago when I was a kid we were on vacation. We were driving on a rural road in then south. Suddenly, my dad stopped the car, and turned around and went back a couple of hundred feet. He got out of the car, went to the side of the road, picked up an upside down turtle and took it several yards into the woods. He then got back in the car and said simply, "There's nothing more helpless than a turtle on its back," and we drove off. He taught me so much about so many things, including compassion. I miss him.

Sweet. Shows animals have a lot more understanding and reasoning that we give them credit.

This shows that animals are not operating solely on instinct, as though they were on autopilot. They have thoughts and emotions; they just have a harder time communicating them to us dumb humans.

I'm thinking he was the one responsible for flipping her in the first place. Damned decent of him though.
