Especially if you're calling internationally, your cell phone charges can increase quickly.
Luckily there are several ways to save money on phone calls made from your smartphone. Most of these alternatives involve VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) apps that place calls over the Internet rather than the phone's 3G network.
Because VoIP requires an internet connection, this isn't always the most reliable way to place calls. However, PCWorld notes, "You could use the VoIP service at home, in a hotel room, or at the office, saving your cell phone minutes for when you really need them."
