Best Chicago Pizza: Chicago Magazine Lists The Top 25 Pizzas (PHOTOS)

First Posted: 06/16/10 02:43 PM ET   Updated: 05/25/11 05:50 PM ET

Chicago Magazine has been going list-crazy lately. Movies, music, novels, restaurants--everything that Chicago loves ranked and discussed in honor of the magazine's 40th anniversary. This month, however, they are bringing out the big guns: ranking Chicago pizza.

On the list of things that Chicagoans argue about, pizza is near the top. Thin crust or pan? South Side or North? Sausage or none? Brave Chicago Magazine dining editor Jeff Ruby named "the 25 tastiest pizzas in town and where to get them" for the magazine's July issue.

The comments section of the story on Chicago's site is already filled with comparisons to New York pizza and "you missed" so-and-so--which I am sure Ruby was prepared for. Well, we rounded up Ruby's top ten. Get the full list here-- and let us know what you think.

Well, Crust is very good, excellent, actually. But it's not exactly Chicago style pizza.

I grew up in a suburb of Chicago. Love the deep dish and adore Lou Malnati's! Every 3 to 4 months I place an order with Tastes of Chicago for some of their pizzas! What special dinners those are!!!!!!!!!!

I think pan pizza is supposed to be the epitome of Chicago pizza. Not that I necessarily agree..

Dear LORD do I miss deep dish pizza. Kansas City is devoid of it

It sounds like most of you are luckier than you know to live where you do. Our pizza here in Southern Utah isn't anything to brag about. Some folks from New Jersey opened a pizza place a few months ago that's better than anything we had previously but still, you are all spoiled and I am jealous!

Utah is more beautiful than where I live. But we do have better pizza.

Mary's Pizza in the California Wine Country - YUM!
Village Pizzera in San Francisco - YUM!

I live in Southern Utah now and we have some okay pizza places but nothing that compares with the two establishments above.

Sorry to offend anyone, but Lou Malnati's "pizza" is, hands down, the worst pizza I have ever had. The crust tastes like butter-flavored Crisco, and their sauce is bland.

Years ago, I once ordered a sausage pizza for take out. Got it home, opened the box and there was a solid 10" piece of sausage that was half an inch thick on the pizza. I didn't ask for a giant single piece of sausage on pizza dough, so I took it back to Lou Malnati's and got my money back.

Not offended, but you're just wrong.

When made correctly, a Spinocolli From Uno/Due is as fine a pizza as can be had in Chicago.

I think pizza may be the ultimate food. I have yet to meet a person that doesn't like pizza.

Pathetic.
Real Chicago ZA - is not even deep dish.

Go to the real neihborhoods of Chicago and you will get Northern Italian Pizza just like you get in Milan, Italy made by honest civilized Italian immigrants.

Not many real Chicagoan's left on the North side. Yet these are all fake North side Chicago pizza places catering to Non-Chicagoans.

As a kid - we parked our car easily at Wrigley Field and it was like going to a Minor League game today. Pathetic how fake everything has become.

What? Fake? I've lived on the north side for 55 years, and I'm still here. Where have you lived for the past 55 years?

I left Chicago 35 years ago, and I know that Lou Malnati was one of the family that started Uno and Due Pizza places on the near North side. Does anybody know if they still exist. For deep dish they were the original and the best.

But Deep Dish pizza is not Chicago pizza. A thin, BUT NOT CRISP, but firm crust is real Chicago Pizza. I used to like Tony's on Rush St. and Romano's in Des Plaines.

Somebody update me. I have been suffering with southern pizza for 35 years!

Uno's is a chain now. I think Due's is still there.
I'm thinking Uno's has frozen pizzas but they weren't all that good compared to the real thing, or maybe that was Nancy's...?
Romano's has good pizza? Used to go there for all you can eat crab legs years ago. Maybe should revisit.
Southern pizza? {{{shudder}}}

There is an Uno right by Due. If you want good pizza, go to one of Lou Malnati's places (there are 7 or so). I think they'll even do shipped frozen pizzas for you.

I've had that Lou Malnati's pie and it is goo-ood. In college I had a friend who would have it Fed Ex'd to him in Milwaukee.
06:44 PM on 06/18/2010
I've had Lou Malnati's shipped to me in New York after seeing it on the Discovery Channel's Pizza show! As I watched, I noticed a phone number on something and tried it, and to my delight they shipped overnight! It was worth it, delicious!

Best pizza in the city.
