Kyra Sedgwick More

Kyra Sedgwick covers the July/August issue of More, and in the interview the actress, 44, talks about struggles with her weight, her kids with Kevin Bacon and losing their money to Bernie Madoff's Ponzi scheme. Here are some excerpts:

On her weight:
"Food has never been easy for me," she tells writer Meryl Gordon, adding that the catalyst was a role in the 1985 film War and Love, for which she was required to lose 20 pounds to play a Holocaust survivor. "I came back from that, and it triggered something," she says. "I ate everything in sight. My weight went up and then too far down... I'm so grateful that I don't get on a scale because it's never going to be the right number."

On her 18-year-old daughter Sosie going off to college this fall:
"I set my alarm to wake up so I can see her. I don't make plans on weekday evenings in case I can spend time with her. It's pathetic; I don't care."

On the conception of her 21-year-old son Travis on her honeymoon with Bacon in 1988:
"We were like, Let's just not use birth control. I didn't think it was going to happen so fast. I got pregnant in two weeks."

On losing investments in the Madoff scheme:
"I laughed. I just couldn't believe it. It's awful, and it's really sad and infuriating. And there are a lot of people who are so much worse off than we are. He's a sick man. . . . You know what it's shattered my trust in? The government taking care of us. The S.E.C. knew--they knew."

Her mouth/lips are so unappealing - wish she could get a lip transplant.

Her role as Julia Roberts sister in "Something to Talk About" is about as good as i gets. Mad about the girl...

Kyra Sedgwick has been one of my favorites actors ever since I saw her in "Singles." I never miss "The Closer," which manages to be serious and funny at the same time, and presents Brenda Lee Johnson as a flawed but sensitive character. One of the best shows on television. I can't wait for them to return to the storyline with the creepy lawyer who got away. That's the case that's gnawing at her.

I loved her in other roles...but I absolutely hate The Closer...can't stand her voice in that show...can't stand the way she acts in that show. I don't watch it...Wished she would go back to making movies.

I love Krya Sedgwick! She's a great actress and I get the impression she fairly DTE. I enjoy watching her Brenda Leigh Johnson in The Closer. (nn))

I like her, but could the Huffington Post condense a source article and make her seem any more pathetic? The only thing that stands between Huffington Post and journalistic greatness is a whole bunch of journalists.

I do like Kyra as an actress. It's sad that she had to learn the hard way that the government wasn't taking care of her or other investors. When you deregulate bad things happen.

I know this lady "enough to say hi" when we run into each other. She is really gracious and full of life. As for the unkind comments about greed and gambling: I would not ask her the specifics, but actors typically have business managers who handle ALL their financial affairs, and do not make their investment choices. Business managers often are very vociferous in expecting their direction to be followed.
But yes, anyone who places all or most of his money in one high-interest place is being foolish at best --- if the business manager insisted, he/she should sell a kidney to pay it back.
PS-- She does not look like this picture, where the photog made her resemble Julia Roberts - she looks like Kyra Sedgwick.

I've always gotten a warm vibe from her, not that it means anything. (After all, actors are... actors!) She and Kevin Bacon both behave in a down-to-earth manner, and based on the fact that the couple is rarely in the tabloids, they must be doing something right and have their priorities in order.

Agreed that this photo looks nothing like her. The photographer and the magazing editors must have had her PhotoShopped during production. I hate that, because her face has such character and uniqueness!

Our notion of beauty and perfection reminds me of the movie "Looker" with Albert Finney. Even supermodels are seeking some perfect, mathematically quantified combination of features that together constitute "beauty."
