Obama Family Crete Vacation? Greece Hopes To Host First Family This Summer

Will The Obamas Vacation In Crete?

Greek daily papers are atwitter with the hope that the President will vacation in Crete this year, instead of his usual home state of Hawaii.

Ever since the President shouted "zito Ellas!" or "long live Greece" at a White House celebration marking Crete's independence day, the tourism industry of Greece has been lobbying (and preparing) for his arrival, according to The Guardian.

It doesn't hurt that Illinois' state treasurer (and Obama fundraiser and fellow basketball player) Alexi Giannoulias, has familial ties to the island.

Crete was visited by former President George H. W. Bush; locals are hopeful that a possible Obama visit will help boost the country that has dealt with economic uncertainty and social unrest recently.
