There has been all sorts of internet speculation about the scar on Jonah Hill's arm, and now he is opening up for the first time about the traumatic accident that caused it. Rolling Stone's press release follows:

Jonah Hill, star of Get Me to the Greek and Cyrus, opens up in the current issue of Rolling Stone, revealing his childhood traumas and burning ambition. Hill reveals--for the first time--the origin of the mysterious scar on his right arm. There's an old, angry scar on Hill's right arm that spiders past his elbow--too big and deep to hide. It looks like his arm was torn in half and then pulled back together, which is more or less what happened. "This is one of the biggest things ever in my life," says Hill. When Hill was in middle school, his mom was battling cancer. Convinced that she was going to die, he started acting out (she's since made a full recovery). He took up skateboarding, started smoking weed. His grades were bad. "I was, like, not a good kid," he says. Hill was 15 when it all came to a head. He and a friend snuck out one night in an SUV. Hill stuck his elbow out the open window as they headed into the night, and his friend started turning the wheel back and forth, joking around. The car flipped over, skidded along the road and dragged Hill's arm with it. Hill woke up in the hospital, and he heard two doctors discussing whether or not to amputate his arm. At the same time, he saw his dad and ailing mom crying. "I said to myself, 'I'll never let them down ever again.' I said, 'I'm going to be f*ckin' successful. I'm going to resurrect what I put these people through by being a little a**hole.' So I look at this scar every day. That reminds me to work hard." Hill also has other, less-visible scars. "Every teacher I ever had told me I was never going to be anything," he recalls.

well at least he turned himself around, i guess. but "smoking weed and getting bad grades" does not make one a bad kid.

I don't think this guy is funny. His comedy is not funny and relies on toilet humor and references to his private parts, which I have a feeling are not much to joke about. He and his school of comedy have come up to a dead end of boring predictable crassness that only the mentally deficient like themselves can love. What is worse, they have killed a long tradition of very talented people who were known to work in what was known as the Borscht Belt, who later moved into main stream Radio, Television, and films. Jonah's brand of comedy is a disgrace to many talented and very funny people. It is really a crying shame.

LOL, you rip him for his "toilet humor" then you make a crack about his "private parts".

It's called hypocrisy, look it up.

"his brand of comedy" you mean he swears? are you 99 years old or 9?

Sorry he still isn't doing punchline jokes in the Catskills, but guess what? No one want's to work the Catskills, they do it because it's a paying gig.

The Borscht Belt? you are 99 aren't you?

I just watched "Cyrus" this afternoon, and I really enjoyed it. It was quite a stretch for Jonah Hill, too. The guy can really act.

I wonder if he reminded RR five times that he was Jewish as he did on Regis & Kelly.

90% of people in show business are Jewish ad nausium. You can't get a decent job unless you are Jewish. Many of them never go near a synagogue, but they constantly yack up their Jewishness to keep themselves working. You would think they would get tired of the lack of diversity. If you say what I have just said, you will never work. I like to believe in equality and equal opportunity for ALL.

I am not quick to accuse people of being anti-semetic, but WOW. You are really needlessly harsh here. I am not Jewish, but if they suceed in show business it is probably because they have talent. I understand 2 of the main High School Musical stars are Jewish. So what. They are good.

Good story, but man, I never realized how not good looking Jonah is. That picture of him. Wow! At least he can make me chuckle somewhat.

What? You can't joke about someone's looks anymore? I'm pretty sure Jonah Hill has made fun of his own looks numerous times. I'll even bet you've made fun of Sarah Palin's looks at least once in your life. Am I off base anywhere?
05:31 PM on 06/18/2010
Hill's making mad cash doing movies. How much are YOU clearing these days, Cyrano?

Wake up calls are good. Shame they have to be life threatening most of the time. I guess that's what it takes to get past it's all about me. The more you give the more you receive..

I really like Jonah Hill as a straight faced comedic actor. I bet he's great in Cyrus, but i do worry about him being so overweight. I feel a lot of times actors remain a certain way so they can get parts in movies as the funny overweight guy. He's probably a good looking man under all that.

"Every teacher I ever had told me I was never going to be anything," he recalls.

Really? Every single one from K - 12? Wow. I'm surprised you could get out of bed every day after age 8.

It's called hyperbole. A useful literary device employed to make a point. It really doesn't matter if it was literally every teacher, one would be bad enough. If you tell a child something often enough, they will either believe it and live it, or they will reject all adult authority as untrustworthy.

Thank you Professor GraceNotes. Now if only you told me I would never amount to anything, then maybe I could do something better with my life than respond to you.
