Girl With The Dragon Tattoo

Entertainment Weekly:

While Larsson's survivors are wrapped up in an estate dispute, his fans are buzzing about a more pressing question: Who should play computer hacker Lisbeth Salander and the crusading investigative journalist Mikael Blomkvist in the Fincher movies? "I think it's hugely important that these parts be immaculately cast," says Rudin. "Because to me, yeah, the stories are great, the plots are fantastic, the twists and turns are completely delicious, but the relationship of the two characters is it. That's what it's about."

I'm reading it 300 pages so far... it's okay, the writing is fair, but not steller by any estimation. Maybe because he died after writing these three books? Perhaps the emotional thing got him some readers.

1-2-3 Is this thing working?

Actually, the first book was the hottest... I had to work at it to get thru the first 100 pages of the third.... someone could have done some editing.
I sort of liked the way it wrapped up, but was left feeling that Larrson left an opening for a sequel.
Too bad he couldn't have lived long enough to produce it...

the swedish movie version is terrific. I doubt a US version will capture the dark, stoic, atmospheric grimness of the book, whereas the swedish version did. The Salander character was perfect (to me). It will be interesting to see. Daniel Craig would seem more appropriate than Brad Pitt.....

Do not choose Kristen Stewart for Salander. She is a one note actress and her ticks drive me crazy.

I'm going to see the Swedish version of the movie tonight in my local art house cinema. I can not think of a single instance when an US remake of a "foreign" film has been even close to the original.

I was super excited when book 2 in the trilogy arrived last week, only to be totally bummed upon opening the cover and reading that Larsson had written the trilogy and then died. I had been looking forward to many more books from him, not just two more.

There is a Swedish movie of book 1, I heard it was very good.

Book one was good, book two great, book three a dud. Rudim is spot on when he says that casting is the most important thing to get right in this, even more important than director ( much to the dismay of "auteurs" everywhere ). Because this is gonna be a finches film it is gonna be detailed and big with tons of atmosphere and design which can squeeze the life out of it unless the casting is superb. Even more important than the thespian is the chemistry between micke and salander. A key: in my mind can't be a known actress
