I wonder when it will finally NOT be expected of an American president to pay lip service to the Almighty in an important address?

The Daily Show disappoints me sometimes with the easy joke. This one is particularly bothersome because it lumps Jimmy Carter in with the rest of those who were all talk and no action on oil independence. People forget that Carter had dozens of working alternative energy projects, several successful ones here in Ohio. He had enough of an engineer in him to start many pilots and some proved to be very promising. Reagan shut them all down, probably as payment to Iran for waiting to release the hostage until he became president. Jimmy Carter was prescient, a freakin' prophet while all the others were seeking profits. He doesn't deserve to be lumped in with the rest of the puppets, not even by John Stewart.

It appears many of the posters regarding this article concerning The Daily Show, The Colbert Report and any stand up comics jokes about government are taking the whole issue to another level. No one is attacking anyone else's ideas fellas. If you don't realize there's something horribly wrong in Washington and that most Americans are fed up with the dysfunction of it all, then please go trace the steps of how we got where we are today. Then trace the steps of the public's stance on all these steps. It's the same dance, every administration. People gripe about the "man" in the oval office. It appears most people don't stop to think that the design is bad, not the man. We finally have an intelligent president and many of you chose to trash HIM over the coals and are not seeing that it's the rules in his play book that suck, not him. Where were you boat rockers when Bush had his head up his keester? No one said Obama is perfect, but he's certainly better than Bush was on so many levels, it's mind boggling.

Fanned! Great post, Carol - sooo true. Until we fix the mechanism, the vehicle will keep crashing, regardless who is at the wheel. Fortunately, our current driver does a better job of NOT taking out pedestrians and other drivers than the last.

Fanned you back MindyC. And I love your car/pedestrian analogy! I also kept help but wonder what things would be like for President Obama if he had resembled his MOTHER as opposed to his father!! Would the righty Tea Bagger Black Man Haters Club make such a big deal out of his father's roots then??? They seem to have completely forgotten his mother is white.

"what i am being fed don't add up"

You missed a class or two on grammar as well. You may be able to reason coherently, but your post doesn't bear that out. What is out of whack about these late-night jokes? Who or what is hypnotizing the masses, and why? Or are you responding to something other than what the article is about?

Line of reasoning not made clear. I was referring to the entire oil spill situation and the resulting aftermeth and fingerpointing. Also the non-response that seems to be prevailing in regards to doing something about OUR eco-system that is being damaged .That is what i find insulting. The comedians are GREAT.

We don't want to see any more lips moving until the leak is buttoned up.

Get this leaky fountain pen out of our cornflakes. Now it's in the Cheerios.

Jesus help us. , The sewer just backed up into the Dish Washer. It's all down the Bathroom and the Hall.
Now we are skimming shit of the front lawn.

Dad is coming hide the drill. This is what we get for letting him drill in the basement and now the dryer is on fire and leaking gas.

We now live in a Hotel Room. This Gulf problem is contagious..

It amazes me that anyone is blaming this on the one man who holds none of the blame. I've never heard one explanation that makes sense, on how this is Obama's fault. His energy is not losing steam, but the level of the average American's intelligence sure disappoints. I'm aware that he has 'advisors', and he has protocol to follow, he also has hoops to jump through to get from point A to point B. Perhaps your blame should be spread across the horizon [no pun intended] of government regulation being lifted; the rampant dishonesty in big business; our congress 'on the take' and big oil with nooses around all the necks of those who ARE in charge.

It's his fault because he has taken responsibility for it. Maybe he shouldn't say crazy things like "the government has been in charge since day one" when it hasn't. He hasn't taken the power and shoved it where it can do any good. It's appalling.

yes but Colbert does seem to be eating this up more, even beyond his parody......he did at least, after letting Israeli Amb. Oren go on and on about their excuses for attacking the ships, ask if PA's should be able to return to their lands.....and Oren was stunned until he mumbled a weak approval....

Jon actually attacked Glenn Beck over the IDF video [or propaganda],
and yet said this edited or maybe doctored film was..
" fair to Israel ! "

Heck, it was way more than fair, with notations in English to press their
point of view. The showing of this video, while the people on the ships
had their video and camera's taken, was nothing less than
free advertising worth many millions.

I thought the Palin joke was funny. He's right the obituary like speech from our fearless leader gave me no hope or solace. We are screwed.Senators apoligizing to B.PP. for coming down toohard on them for precipitating the worst eco-crisis in history. This is starting to insult my intelligence.

Why didnt HP report how Colbert endorsed a GOP Congressman for South Carolina and gave him about 5 minutes of national airtime? Colbert even mentioned how his endorsements have so far been 100% successful.

Where's the parody in that?

Stephen also prefaced the segment with the fact that the congressman was a friend of the show, and they always support a friend of the show.
I don't remember him mentioning or offering a "Colbert Bump", though.
03:59 AM on 06/19/2010
I thought it was weird, too! I was watching and thinking, what is THIS all about? The guy seemed to feel a bit awkward with Stephen's support, but nonetheless, glad to have it. This went from being the normal parodizing to something a little too real for my taste....
