First Posted: 06/18/10 01:15 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 05:50 PM ET

Ron Artest is no stranger to bizarre post-game interviews, but the newly crowned NBA champion did not disappoint after the Lakers clinched the 2010 NBA title Thursday night. In an interview immediately following Game 7, the small forward thanked a wide range of friends and associates, including "everybody in my hood," "my doctor" and "my psychiatrist." According to Artest, "she really helped me relax a lot."

That almost made me like this guy. He was the key in Game 7. Remarkably calm and focused. Well done to both.

A little bit TMI, but there is nothing wrong with getting help when you need it.
Most people seem to fail at that.

Well, just wait till Tom Cruise gets ahold of this!!!!

I believe most Black people still think seeing a psychiatrist is a sign of weakness and something only White people do and unfortunately we don't get the mental health treatment we need. I applaud Ron Attest for thanking his psychiatrist and hopefully his statement will make more people, of whatever color, get the mental healthcare treatment they need.

Congratulations to the Lakers, to the ever-testy Ron Artest, Kobe Bryant, Derek Fisher, and the rest. The championship victory is theirs for the year 2010, but the East will strike again.

Poisonous epitaphs dished out periodically.

So Ron Artest thanks his shrink for whom he works out his issues with?

If psychotherapy translates into improved anger management skills and improved performance on the basketball court, then why not?

Good psychiatric care, whether preventive or curative, can be a tremendous help in someones live. At least he's not thanking Jesus, who, to the best of my knowledge, lived in a time when the game of basketball wasn't invented yet.

Don't knock Jesus. If it wasn't for Jesus Ron Artest wouldn't have a basketball career and be able to afford to see a psychiatrist.

I laughed, but I laughed because I know Artest really meant it. He seems like a big teddy bear, and he was damn good in Game 7 for the Lakers. He and Pau Gasol were huge.

Artest's thanks seemed genuine and I think it was. Now maybe Rasheed Wallace will get the help he needs.

And, what's so unual about this. And, I think Ron Artest should have won MVP, but Kobe would of had a hissy-fit.

It would have been absurdly unfair to give Ron the MYP of the series. Gasol would have been a more rationale choice than Ron. However, when you consider the entire playoff series--OK, UT, Phx and Bost--Kobe's stats are undeniably the best on the team. And he had the most defensive pressure to deal with, on a bum knee and broken finger....Only a bonafide Kobe-hater or someone that doesn't really understand b-ball could claim that Ron deserved the MVP for playing the pivotal role in one game.

Ron brings an energy and drive, he also scores. Phil said it too. Ron should be MVP.
