Andy Roddick On USA Goal That Was Stolen By Ref: USA Got Mugged (VIDEO)

US Open tennis champ Andy Roddick spoke his mind on the disallowed US goal against Slovenia in Friday's World Cup game--a goal that would have meant a win for the US, who came back from a tough 2-0 deficit to tie the game in the 81st minute.

Asked whether he understood the rules of soccer, Roddick replied:

I understand the rules of football so well that apparently when two Slovenian guys mug an American guy, the American guy gets called for a foul.

His intensity sometimes comes off wrong.

Lots of the games are full of bad calls. Kaka should not have been given a red card. Unfortunately that is the way it goes in soccer. OK Mexico is playing.......they play quite quite well. Gotta go.

He messed up his delivery. If he'd gone with " Well there's still rules I'm learning about like the one that states . . ." the punchline would have worked.

It was bad luck for the Americans that that goal got disallowed, but bad calls happen sometimes, its not like it was 'rigged' or anything. It was a great game, thats that.

Welcome to the Club USA. Australia has just been awarded the Unfair Play award.
Either Australia plays very dirty or the referees penalise Australia more than other teams.
I think Australia is not a dirty team. I think it is the referees. The recent red card against Harry Kewell and the one awarded when Australia played Italy in 2006. The Italian player should have got an Oscar for acting with his dive.
It looks to me like the referees are going to give the US the same treatment.

And yet he will still get the last laugh as he pulls in those huge paychecks for losing and then goes home to his beautiful wife who will love him whether or not he wins Wimbledon.

I am looking forward to Roddick losing in the first round of the Wimbledon which starts on Monday. These frat boys are nauseating.

Your attitude is nauseating. BTW, how about holding off on another helping of organic miso and go play a sport. Exercise is good for you.

Jealousy: a terrible thing GreenPlanet.

We have more important issues to deal with other than this distraction.
Other than the world cup, when is the last time you watched a soccer game?
Thought so.
03:46 PM on 06/20/2010
You ask and answer your own questions? Nice.

If there are such important issues to deal with why are you here posting on this website? Isn't that a 'distraction'?

A lot of ado about a playground game. It wouldn't matter if it weren't for the money they throw at these overpaid jocks and the gambling that these games generate.
10:56 AM on 06/21/2010
Why should the ref be fired? Then they should have fired to umpire who blew Armando Galarraga's perfect game, right?
01:58 PM on 06/20/2010
Andy's great, and he just so happens to be right.
03:47 PM on 06/20/2010
Roddick's 100% correct. People around here are blinded by anti-Americanism to see clearly.
01:31 PM on 06/20/2010
No doubt it was a terrible call.

But, that's what "collateral damage" feels like, A$$holes. And, I'm American!

I'm glad your views are considered part of "the fringe." Now if we could only get the Tea Partiers and mainstream Republicans recognized as such.

I'd keep an eye on that ref for a few months to see if he makes some rather large purchases.

I've asked many anti-Americans on these boards what their countries of origin are. Amazing how they all refuse to answer. What are they afraid of? Have they no pride in their countries? I guess not.

I know that's and extremely frustrating aspect about posting here. No requirement to identify what part of the world posters are from. As a result the site has become an international t.r.o.l.l. magnet.

We both know most refuse to identity themselves to keep the cheap shots one sided.

What amazes me is that Ar*ianna is an American. This is a site created by an American. You'd think they'd avoid it if they hate this country so. Hypocrites.

Apologize for the typo in the first sentence. Dyslexia kicking in.
