Angelina Jolie Visits Haiti

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti — Actress Angelina Jolie has quietly returned to Haiti for meetings with Haitian and U.N. officials.

The weekend visit by the "goodwill ambassador" for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees was not announced to keep it low-profile.

U.N. officials confirmed the visit when asked by The Associated Press. They agreed to discuss the trip only if not quoted by name because they were asked not to share details of Jolie's visit.

Jolie has visited Haiti several times. In February she met with orphans and other earthquake victims.

The actress has also visited Iraq, Thailand, Pakistan and other countries on behalf of the U.N. refugee agency.

The world's worst role model for young women -- as she waves we see a tattoo under her wrist. Gross. No morals, no ethics, no principles, and tries to make up with it by grabbing publicity for "good works." She bought her ambassador title, buys her children from poor mothers. Disgusting excuse for a real woman. I wish she'd get some help and straighten herself out. She's a mess. Her acting chops are hugely overrated. Go away, Angelina, and stop being a bad example. We're trying to raise daughters.

Her children didn't have mothers. And that little girl was so sick when she adopted her that she would have died had she not been brought to the US. So what if she is a bad actress, I think that's not her priority.
She is a very compassionate person who realizes that not everyone has what she does. We should have more people in the world like her.

Let's not drag poor Jennifer into this situation. She doesn plenty of charity work too and gives away plenty of money. It's just not as public as Angelina. The same thing goes for a lot of other celebrities like Sandra Bullock.

As for sainthood, all of them seem to give enough money away to cover their tax expenses, but I won't throw stones at them for doing it. I do the same thing. I'd rather give my tax money to the ASPCA or the Humane Society or the World Wildlife Fund any day than give it to the U.S. government. I don't think that makes me a saint, and I don't think it makes Angelina a saint either.

In fact, it's just smart to give the money to a good charity, especially if you groan about your tax dollars being wasted by Uncle Sam. You can give almost your entire tax burden away to charity. Just ask an accountant about it.

Isn't there anyone on the planet who likes BOTH Jolie & Aniston? Anywhere? I suppose since neither is the 'on my wall' type to me, I'm not quite ready to do full battle on their behalf. (in case anyone cares, I have the poet Shelley on my wall, & no one has maligned him for a hundred or so years... And I don't have him there because I'm literary, but because he's cute. Also, a lotro poster!)

It's not THAT hard to see nice things in both of them. Jolie, eccentric & delicate. Aniston, incredibly fit, looks amazing in clothes. We don't really *have* to view these women as mortal enemies. (it strikes me that this is in the mind of fans, & not in theirs, but who knows?) One does action/drama stuff, one does romantic comedies. Women might do better to support women in various roles, rather than an all or nothing, competition into oblivion.

Well, I'd call Palin pretty, tbh. I'd say she has pretty fabulous bone structure. I wouldn't vote for her for town council, but she seems pretty to me. (healthy, fit, attractive coloring, etc)

I don't see the comparison, though. Jolie is willowy, serious in expression, and small featured, except for her lips - Palin is athletic, smiley, and large-featured. Maybe Jolie is tiny, too - for some reason, I think she is - but Palin looks shorter.

US officials were asked if Jolie visited by the AP and they were not supposed to share details of her visit. The AP was of course tipped off about Jolie's visit by Jolie's publicity crew. U.S. officials were asked not to comment on her visit so she could make sure the publicity about it was released according to her schedule. This is Hollywood charity, not actual charity.

Jolie publicity crew? Who is that exactly? She pretty famous fired her PR team a few years ago (PMK)..Huffinton POst even carried the story. So who is the imaginary PR team?

Could it be that AP had press representation in Haiti who saw her or heard someone talking about her being there and then reported it?

I can guarentee you that most of us on here have doanted a larger percentage of our spare time or money to charity than Jolie. When you work 6 months out of the year, taking a plane flight to a poor country and spending a day there while your personal photographers snap pictures of you and release them to the press over the next week isn't really a huge inconvienience.

Any act of charity comes from the heart. Celebrities might skim the surface of causes but many of them are truly dedicated to humanitarian work. Jolie has been consistent in her desire to contribute her time and energy throughout the world. She gets attention because of all she has accomplished in life. It is a good thing. Continue your efforts, I will pursue mine and acknowledge anyone who wishes to do the same.

To proclaim that "it isnt really a huge incovienience" is unfair. She leaves six kids behind, still shooting, the women does two movies at a time, and doesnt have to give a moment of her time, or the millions she has donated....to charity. She takes risks with her life, everytime she visits a war zone.
