Michelle Obama, Maxwell & Jill Scott: FLOTUS Hosts Girls' Night Out At Concert

We were wondering where Michelle was last Friday night, when Barack and the girls went to the ballgame. It turns out that she hosted a girls' night out, taking over a suite at the Maxwell and Jill Scott concert at the Verizon Center in Washington, DC, Page Six reports. She brought along a dozen girlfriends and her mom Marian Robinson.

Maxwell is FINE and he gives a great concert. I was three rows back in New Orleans in December 2002 at one of his rare concerts. His voice was just as good as on the recordings. Too bad the President didn't take her 'cause Maxwell's music should be enjoyed with your man by your side.

I find it interesting that the Press seems to cover every minute detail about Michelle yet, we never heard a peep about what Laura Bush did for 8 years.

Laura Bush was, of course, active as a first lady, with her health, education and literacy initiatives; however, Michelle Obama is much more out and about, and two of her main initiatives pull on the emotional strings, if you will -- childhood obesity and military families. Also, the Obama's run a much more open White House; and, of course, Michelle is the hostess of all those events.

Michelle Obama, too, has a fashion style that attracts many people, whereas Laura Bush was always dressed well, but conservative, low key and older. That may sound frivolous, but in actual fact it is not. Image is a really important part of a person's brand and the impressions it leaves with others.

All this is not to diminish, in any way, the good work that Laura Bush did as First Lady.

On the flip side, Michelle Obama is probably unfairly and unsubstantially criticized more often than Laura Bush was.

I honestly never saw much in the news about Laura especially when it came to criticism about little things like where she went to dine with George or what she wore or what movie she saw. I just find it interesting that so much coverage is given Michelle over the most mundane things.

I definitely agree with you about the Obama's running a much more open WH.

I'd agree with you Nevafor...

The Obama's are much more social, and more contemporary... but I think most people still find Laura Bush an interesting, smart, well-liked figure... despite how some may feel about her husband's admin.

I also agree with you that the flip-side of Michelle Obama's activity.. is the added criticism that it opens her up to.

I attent the Maxwell and Jill Scott's concert. I must say Jill Scott's performance was for the general people. Maxwell on the other hand...Hmm...Some parts of his show were for adult women only. I hope Michelle and her mother were prepared. Perhaps, we calmed it down for the First Lady. If not the Obamas might be expecting another child.
