New Orleans Anti-British Ad: Tourism Board Uses BP's Money To Mock Brits

New Orleans Ad

You stay classy, New Orleans: The city's tourism board is taking the roughly $4.4 to $14.9 million BP gave to the town for oil spill compensation and turned it into a snide anti-British rant, according to the UK's Telegraph.

The ad, which has since been pulled (obviously), eludes to the ass-whipping defeat Andrew Jackson gave the invading British Army during the 1814-1814 Battle of New Orleans. The doctored photo features a tilted statue of Jackson with the words: "This isn't the first time New Orleans has survived the British."

What describes this best: pathetic? Awesome? You decide.

Quick Poll

New Orleans' anti-British ad is...

...depressing. Who remembers this battle anyway?

...totally awesome.

Are the British finally getting EVEN? Is the Queen satisfied NOW?

Good song!

"They ran through the briars
And they ran through the brambles
And they ran through the Bushes
Where a rabbit wouldn't go
They ran so fast
That the hounds couldn't catch 'em
Down the Mississippi
To the Gulf of Mexico...."

Obviously the British don't understand New Orleans humor. To those that were insulted, they probably would not "get" New Orleans anyway. Of course, they would still have a good time. Nobody does it better than NOLA. By the way, some of my ancestors were the ones to wope those British asses, so maybe I am not the best one to ask. LOL!

Outstanding!!!! Just one problem: I grew up in St Bernard Parish not too far from the Battlefield. The battle took place January 8-10, 1815, not in 1814.

Yeah, but it took about a month to get down the Natchez trace by foot, since they didn't have the luxury of C5s. So's they left in 1814 and whupped 'em in 1815....did anyone mention that the war was officially over, but no communications.

As a native New Orleanian who once went to school located on the site of the companion battle on the West Bank, directly opposite the primary battlefield, local history tells it differently. Jackson was already local - Jackson didn't have to come down the trace and the bulk of the fighting force were locals. Jackson was notified by sail to expect the invasion force and he set out lookouts along the Mississippi and Lake Bourne, and several other bodies of water near by. ... And the rest, they say, is history...
