Peter Gabriel Plays Tom Waits To Promote Peace In Central Africa

The Voice Project is an effort to use music as a way to support the peace movement in northern Uganda, home of the longest-lasting conflict in Africa, a war that has raged for more than two decades. (Impact has previously reported on this conflict and efforts to end it.)

The idea is that women and young people in central Africa have used music as a way up keep their spirits up during times of war. The Voice Project embraces this -- and dozens of music covers have been recorded in support.

The latest in these recordings is a cover of Tom Waits' 1983 track "In The Neighborhood," performed by Peter Gabriel.

I've not heard many people sing a Tom Waits song and do it justice... but loved this version
of "The Neighborhood" by Peter Gabriel!

Love Tom and Peter also. Always have and always will. I wonder if Peter has any more ideas about morphing Tom's "In the Neighborhood." It will be interesting to see/hear where this cover goes. The best part of this is that I think of Tom Waits as rough and Peter Gabriel has polished. The combination seems potentially boundless.

I've never heard of any charges against Peter Gabriel for anything, let alone domestic violence and I've followed his career for decades. Unless you can substantiate such a flippant accusation, please take the trollism elsewhere.
