If the U.S. wants to build up a strong tehnology-based/manufacturing/exporting economy, most of these jobs are not the type of jobs that we need to focus on increasing.

I am constantly seeing ads for rent a car companies. I think enterprise posts an ad in every single city in the country every single day. That much turn over means something sleazy is happening at those companies.

I agree. But it could be an okay job for some people to tide them over until better jobs show up.

Wow- what a great selection to choose from. Good luck paying those student loans back with wages made in the non-profit and service sector (although I can't say for sure what positions HP has available).

I think Mythbusters needs to take on the Legend of White-Collar jobs. They have become like the yeti...

Services and non-profits (well, HP). Not an impressive or inspiring list by any means. Waiting for that turnaround....Meanwhile kids, how about an MBA or a PhD?? Keep rolling those loans over and act as a "stimulus" for us in higher ed!

That's it? Meanwhile hundreds of bigger companies paid back America by sending all the jobs they could to India & China. And why does the US still have an H1B visa program bringing in 100,000 a year cheap labor in tech & medical fields during this terrible economic crisis?

FANNED!!! They say its because there aren't enough engineers and accounts in the work force and they have to bring in these H1B kids. What it really means is why would I start out a kid from Georgia Tech at $60,000/ year with benefits when I can give an India kid $31,500 and vision only insurance.

so are we suppose to be so grateful to the few bones these corporations throw out at newly college graduates after all the jobs got shipped to China and India by them?

You can do well at cell phone companies, such as Verizon if you really work at it. I have a friend who is the manager at a Verizon store - he has a Bachelor's in Communication. He took a few journalism jobs out of college and then ended up at Verizon as a sales associate...He's been there about 8 yrs now, and is making over $80,000 a year..

Unfortunately they changed their commission structure not too long ago so newbies aren't going to be making much over 30.

you want my advice...join the military....at least your credit is good once you leave...and you go to Webster U or something and the degree will count the same...plus you have vet. preference....but what do i know....i'm a 3L feeling a large amount of buyer's remorse

Not a bad idea - if you join *after* college, as an officer. That way, you're less likely to be cannon fodder.

Quite.

Even colleges have placards on walls telling of how much a person with x degree can make.

For a Bachelor's degree, a person can make $36,000. (Which is great... if we lived in 1975...)

Ain't that the truth. But at least maybe they'll have jobs until they can go out and start their own companies :)

And by then the bigger companies will crush them.

You do know that's one of walmart's more favored hobbies, yes?

And it's not just walmart. Big companies will do anything to eliminate competition. Competition lowers THEIR bottom line.

I don't care for market manipulation.

Enterprise Rent A Car's "Management Trainee" program is crap. According to one top executive, "We hire the half of college classes that makes the upper half possible". They prefer to hire athletes and frat types who are used to just going with the flow and helping the team. The only problem is the team is run by a bunch of coked up d-bags with no interest in the the lower ranks. Your whole job is to sell damage waiver insurance. Its a crappy product and its really your only reason for being there. Every morning stats are loaded on the computer for you to either be yelled at or praised. You learn nothing there but how to swindle poor people. The worst part is, you are paid $0 for anything you sell, its worst than a pyrimid. All your sales go to make the people at the top money. 6 years, 6 figures is what they tell you, but it doesnt happen. You will work 60hrs and only get paid for 48, and if you complain you are out. You dont have to take my word just visit www.FailingEnterprise.com or jobvent.com

Their cars are all scratched up too, which they try to blow over so they can charge for the re-painting.

And then don't complain when all of the nation's knowledge is owned by private corporations.
