Greenbrier Resort's Underground Casino Opens July 2nd

Celebs To Toast Opening Of Greenbrier's New Underground Casino

On July 2nd, West Virginia's (yes, you read that right) famed Greenbrier Resort will open its new 102,000 square foot underground casino, according to the Associated Press.

To celebrate the opening, the luxury resort will host a black tie dinner and a concert by Lionel Richie (he owes his daughter a big thank you). Confirmed to attend so far are Shaq and Jack Nicklaus, with asks out to Jennifer Garner (a W.V. native), Jessica Simpson (because what else does she have to do?), Brooke Shields and Jane Seymour.

The Greenbrier has a storied place in U.S. history. Every president since Dwight Eisenhower has stayed at the presidential suite, and it's the site of a massive underground bunker meant to house the U.S. Congress in the event of a bomb during the Cold War. The casino is placed underground so as not to ruin the grounds of the historic resort (the casino's building has been hotly contested in W.V. in the last few years, according to USA Today.).
