Fallon-Ferguson Food Fight: Cutest Late Night War Ever Continues With 'Spaghetti Eyes' (VIDEO)

First Posted: 06/24/10 01:09 PM ET Updated: 05/25/11 05:50 PM ET

Jimmy Fallon started a food fight with Craig Ferguson last night by shooting spaghetti through his eyes at his competitor in LA. The amazing part? It worked! "The spaghetti that ended the late night wars," as Ferguson dubbed it, came through the camera at Ferguson at the end of his monologue. Afterwards, Ferguson explained, "In the before times, people on late night pretended to hate each other...Instead of pretending to hate [Jimmy Fallon] I pretend to like him." He "ceded" that Jimmy's show is better than his and asked the audience "flip the thing and have a look at his show."

This comes weeks after a fierce waving battle that involved Mickey Mouse hands and huge smiles. After such bitterness between Leno & Letterman and Leno & Conan it's heartening to see comics being comics.

Cute! In this market, Craig starts 40 minutes after Fallon. I don't turn on my teevee until it's time for Craig. Wouldn't trade him for ANYONE

Craig's monologue: wonderful.
Fallon's monologue: meh.
But Fallon's sketches and audience participation is where he makes his mark.

I cannot believe how unfunny this guy is. He just keeps failing upwards into better jobs. He has the Justin Long appeal thing going for him- thats about it.

Looks like Craig has been touched by the FSM's noodly appendages.

Colbert/Stewart Vs Conan first started the 'good' late night fights! It's great seeing people who are on different networks, doing the same type of show (or almost), in the same time slot getting along and having fun! And I absolutely love Ferguson!

Between the two of them Craig is much, much funnier than Jimmy Fallon. I get the impression that Fallon is very uncomfortable performing before and audience. His jokes are really sometimes quite flat. I don't know but maybe his humor is rooted in New York City and Saturday Night Live. Ferguson is a treasure.

He sucked on SNL. Nearly ruined the show. Only people who find him funny are women who laugh reflexively at guys they find cute rather than at genuine humor. See: Dane Cook.

I'm goofy looking, unfunny, and talentless - can I also get a show like Jimmy Fallon did? Have your people call my people.

Fallon is a nice guy and he's so cute. But he's still not funny. Craig is a riot.
01:15 PM on 06/24/2010
The notion that some how Fallon is better than Ferguson is hilarious.

Thanks to the "miracle of modern technology" I watch both Jimmy and Craig within a couple hours of each other, with less commercials. The spaghetti wars probably worked out well for both sides, giving new viewers to both shows. The internet is a wonderful thing, especially for us insomniacs. It'd be even more wonderful if I could get Doctor Who episodes the same time they air in the UK.

Fallon is on Hulu - and I watch/listen during the day at work. Is Ferguson on the net?

I agree with the pundits who think that Fallon is the next Tonight Show host.

Not saying it will be soon - but I believe it will happen.

While that might be NBC's thinking, he would be a disaster. Jay Leno succeeds because is comedy is very much Middle America and very much Middle-class. Fallon's approach is just too New Yorky for America. This is why Conan O'Brien did not fare well in that time slot. The time will come when Leno will be replaced, I suggest that NBC begin looking for someone out side the confines of their headquarters at 30 Rock.

You can find Ferguson's show on Youtube. Just punch in "Craig Ferguson LateLateShow" and the date of the show you are looking for. You will find it in easy to digest high quality segments, with the commercials removed.

He (Ferguson) "ceded" that Jimmy's show is better than his and asked the audience "flip the thing and have a look at his show."

I doubt CBS is laughing.

Yeah, like ANY regular viewer of Craig's will be able to stand Fallon for more than 45 seconds.

He's OK, but Jimmy caters to the 30 & under crowd (more 23 & under), while Craig goes for adults (but is still strong with younger viewers).

But it's even more than that....the styles are so different, there's no way you could really enjoy both of them; it's one or the other.

Your imagination is limited, I'm 55, and watch both. I like Ferguson but have gotten really tired of the way his audience has trained him to lapse into lisping swishy squealing gay stereotypes every 3 minutes for a surefire easy laugh. Fallon is good, but Fallon + the Roots is sheer TV magic - the best thing on TV, up there with 30 Rock.
