Miley Cyrus Cant Be Tamed

MTV News:

Miley Cyrus has always been about girl power. Her tracks like "7 Things" and "The Climb" may at first glance seem like party anthems or weepy ballads, but she thinks that upon closer inspection her lyrics empower young women. And she says the tracks on her new album, Can't Be Tamed, are no different.

"I think 'Tamed' does it the best, and 'Liberty Walk,' " she told MTV News. "It's just about freeing yourself from anything you think is holding you back. And I think that's really important, especially for girls, because so many people are told, 'No, you can't do something,' or, 'You need to be this because Mom and Dad say that, teachers say this.' "

She too is struggling pyscho-developmentally to find a sense of self. Her journey mimics that of every other human being the only difference is: she performs her journey to a world wide audience.
She has a huge responsibility for one so young, because she is influencing girls her age and younger. Granted as an adult, I would say, it would be nice to see her playing a more modest role, but honestly, she's still a typical teenage girl expressing herself in order to discover her identity.

Young girls struggle everyday with self image and the way for them to truly become 'empowered'
is through self acceptance of who they are and what they can do. Outside sources will influence this, but really, the source of influence will come from within the home. As parents, we can circumvent our young girls by giving them a variety of opportunities and introducing them to other more influential and positive female role models.

I'm already waiting for the "comeback" tour after she has has a nervous breakdown by age 22 (that's what often happens when you peak at age14) and and then completes rehab to deal with an addiction something or another.

It is a shame that young girls idolize her classless performances and seek to immitate her dancing. Female empowerment would better be portrayed with a positive non-sexual image. I cannot imagine mature women wish to be portrayed as sexual objects. p.s. Miley isn't that fine of a specimen anyhow so settle down adhd men.

So she's empowered to pole dance and be a tramp at 17, I'd say her parents must be proud but they're too busy cashing her checks.

Dancing on a pole is empowering?

Isn't that what strippers tell themselves? It's easier than admitting that they're one step away from prostitution.

Oh, please let no one equate female empowerment with this scantily dressed egotistical young woman. At her age she thinks she knows anything about empowerment? Her career has been bought and paid for by publicity savvy parents and a company churning out plastic starchild after plastic starchild . Work your way through college, overcome poverty or class discrimination, become a teacher, doctor, community volunteer or do something which does not directly affect your bank account and that of your parents. Society must stop revering and rewarding these talentless entertainers. It is isn't about female empowerment it is only about Miley Cyrus empowerment of her bank account.

Oh come on. Are you forgetting what a tremendous impact other disney stars have had on the world? What about Britney Spears? Surely the world would have stopped turning had it not been for her imitation of Lolita for 3+ years.

I agree with you. This is not female empowerment.

Empowerment isn't signaled by shopping in the stripper section of the mall. It is signaled by going your own way and not the same way of all the other Disney girl stars. Female empowerment shouldn't be cheesy.

A talentless hillbilly with a one hit wonder dad gets funded into stardom by a billion dollar corporation (Disney).

Female empowerment? Not so much.

Corporate empowerment being spoon fed to young children? Now we're talkin!

Wow! I just read the same comment (this a few sentences shorter) on the MTV site. You're either a "posting maniac" or about as original as Miley herself.

Fat chance. See, they have taken over 'legal person', replacing humans. Humans are forced to cut funds for education, for policing and fire rescue, for special needs, for opportunities. But massive cushions are being made for corporations. They cut employees, but increase bonuses for executives.
Then they these 'legal persons' have laid claim to 'the people's airwaves. They claim oligopolic control of TV and radio. And by this, they gain access to impressionable children. So if by chance there is a two parent household, both parents work while the corporations prepare children for consumerism. And these little consumers are easily manipulated to emulate idols and characters. And by learning to emulate TV, they are prepared to be motivated to be consumers. Thus, Disney is the supreme master of this methodology. All others are merely imitators, some far more grotesque. From Micke Mouse, to Mouskateers, to little sitcom shows, to kid music videos, to advertising which give life to Britney and Aguilera and Miley. And that just the sugar and spice. What of the hard liquor?

I think Disney is a bad start for these girls. I really love Disney but it seems like these child stars like Brittany, Lindsey and Miley end up growing up and dressing trampy, etc. to break that wholesome girl image typically encouraged by the Disney folks. Miley is not quite in line with Brittany and Lindsey yet but it looks to me like she may be headed down that path of self destruction. My daughter has idolized Miley because of her show, etc. now I won't let her see a thing Miley is doing. These outfits are completely inappropriate for the image they created for her many years ago. Maybe if her career had started out this way it would have been different but this is disappointing because rather than empowering women/girls this sends the wrong message.

I wonder why underage Disney stars are not held to a stricter contract like Pro sports athletes.

Pro athletes are told that they are role models, but young Disney stars are free to get paid to act one way for Disney, and free to Wh0r3 it up in their own time?

disney is evil.

It is about Money. How many of her lawyers are women? Are any of the production companies owned by women? Is she represented by a woman owned public relations company? Are the production companies and producers employers of women? Does her recording contract ask for or demand participation by women producers, writers and technicians. What about the insurance companies, any of them have empowered women putting together her coverage. I didn't think so.
