Nevada Senate Race Heats Up: Harry Reid Ad Hammers Sharron Angle Over Social Security (VIDEO)

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is taking aim at Republican rival Sharron Angle in a new campaign ad over the Tea Party-backed contender's suggestion to eliminate Social Security.

The minute-long spot from Reid's camp blasts Angle's position as "crazy" and assails a comparison the GOP hopeful recently made between the retirement program and Welfare.

"You've heard Sharron Angle wants to wipe out Social Security, now she says it's like Welfare," a narrator says before audio is featured of Angle herself saying, "My grandfather would not even take his Social Security check because he said he was not up for welfare, he had planned for his retirement, and he wouldn't take it."

A new NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll out the same day as Reid's latest campaign ad reveals an overwhelming majority to be uncomfortable with Angle's plan to phase out Social Security.

With all of the inane comments Angle has made over the past couple of years, Reid could run an ad a minute. He probably doesn't have enough money to run them all or enough marketers to put them together. Wonder what she'll do when Reid wins and she has to join the ranks of the "spoiled" unemployed?

Not only SS but she is against alcohol, medicare, and all the things that make up for a civilized society. She is for guns and would like to start up a revolution in this country where millions could get killed to accomplish what? So they could add prohibition to the constitution again...? Las Vegas should be all against her! and drill and spilll, and women are back in the kitchen having babies but no jobs...yep going back to the 18th century is such a great thing and is really goinng to help to move us....backwards!!!!!!!!.

She was born in '49, so she's close. Who knows her grandfather's story?
In any case, merely considering that SS is welfare as we know it is a great misunderstanding of the institution. Presenting it this way in a Senate race shows that she is continuing to walk in mud, "tell us more Ms. Angle?"

Reid is rightfully using his warchest to put out ads against Angle. She's like Palin in the sense that using her own words against her is the best way to show her twisted perspectives.
There will be those that support her, yet there will always be folks that support the outer fringe. Luckily, that's not the majority of Nevada voters.

Sharron Angle wants to take her state from the economic powerhouse that it currently is down to that of a third world nation. If anybody that lives in Vegas, or Reno votes for her then they deserve to be out of work. If her ideas were to ever become law then she would ruin Nevada.

As far as Social Security is concerned I don't think anybody except for the craziest would compare it to welfare. Oddly enough welfare wasn't looked upon as a negative until the 1980's and if her father was describing Social Security as welfare then he must have paid into it for his entire life. This would be like putting money into a savings account each paycheck and then not using it because you don't like the bank the account is in. Welfare isn't bad, and in fact I'd be willing to bet that most Americans have at one point or another used what conservatives would consider welfare. It's just that the aid that is given wouldn't be considered welfare because it's for one purpose or another.

Angle is associating Social Security with 'welfare' in order to be able to eliminate it. Drive that point into people's minds and it makes it easier to do so...because of the negative connotation. Slick move that may work with her followers - who are easily led. But not the rest of us!

Agree. Part of the reason SS is constructed for everyone is so that it is not need-dependant, therefore "welfare." We all pay for it, and when we receive it it's money that we've paid.
(I know that it's not the exact same dollar, but then nothing is ever the exact same dollar that was deposited, invested, etc.)

It's gotten so bad for Harry that his own son is distancing himself from the Reid name.
In Rory Reid's first campaign advertisement, there is no mention at all of his last name. Instead, it urges voters to support "Rory" in the ad about education.
The same is true on Reid's website, where even in the biography section there is no mention of his relationship to father Harry Reid. ROFLOL

Those of us who actually live and vote in Nevada know who the Reids are....we also know who Sharon is (2x voted worst legislator in the State Senate by her peers).
