I bought the Falling Bookend last month.
It's good to see that it is the chosen one.
Bought it here free shipping :

I think one or two of these are actually functional for more than 4 books. Sadly these are looks over function. The vast majority are not heavy enough to hold up even slightly leaning books on most shelf surfaces.

Bookends have to either be a) very heavy or b) have a lip that slips under the books they are supporting, using the books to help stability or c) have some kind of serious no-slide substance on the bottom - not felt or cork, but more like something rubbery.

These are attractive yes - but they are mostly statuary, not functional bookends.

I am currently deployed to Iraq until November or so of this year. I am thinking of studying for designing, both interior and exterior designs and designing in general after the Army. I want to take up President Obama's challenge and get into college and doing something that benefit the coming change at home and globally in the shift that is evidently taking place, but still yet unseen by many. I would greatly appreciate it greatly if I can have care packages sent with some of the books pictured above, design architecture and othe landscaping and interior design type material of interest. Address is as followed. JERMAINE ATHILL, CPT, TASK FORCE 1ST BATTALION, 15TH INFANTRY REGIMENT
US ARMY, FORWARD OPERATING BASE ECHO (IRAQ)
APO AE 09332-9998

Thank you all in advance, appreciate your support and I took hope we will leave Iraq and Afghanistan soon rather than later. I look forward to the new world that we will all contribute to in the years ahead and the new and emerging America....A MORE PERFECT UNION!

I use two bricks. One from the original torn down Comiskey Park, and the other from the hotel Al Capone lived in. That is one heavy brick.

Does Han Solo get to shoot first in the Star Wars Mos Eisley bookend?

I like the falling bookend, not just because I think it's funny, but because you only need one.

Now, if the iPad book end was also a charger, they'd have something.

Do you guys have a quota of meaningless stories you have to fill every day?
01:53 PM on 06/25/2010
funny.

The tax levied on me to subsidize the library is 1% of my property tax per year. Do you know how much that is on a $5 million dollar home? Our children is not learnin'

I dont know what your property tax rate is, but one percent of that doesn't sound like it would mean the difference between having to downgrade one's lifestyle
11:17 AM on 07/16/2010
No, I don't know how much your property tax is. Why don't you tell us and we can do the calculations from there.

If one owns more books than book shelve space, then book ends are a waste of much needed space. And if you want to place books (for example) on top of a fireplace mantel (or any flat surface without sides) where book ends are needed, the best book ends are two stacks of books laid flat, between them you can place books horizontally.

I have so many books that I have ruled out knickknack sorts of things because they make the house look too cluttered. I do what you do.

yes, two stacks of books, and they look really good. I have a vast leather bound collection and no cluttered look for me.

My house is full of books and I have a weakness for really interesting bookends. You have shown a wonderful selection - some of the best I've seen. Thanks.

I, too, have so many books I don't know what to do with them. These book ends are fabulous.

If you don't know what to do with them, donate the ones you don't need to your local thrift shop. Many people cannot afford to buy books at $28+ a pop and rely on second hand books as their source.
