Dick Cheney Hospitalized

WASHINGTON — Former Vice President Dick Cheney was admitted to the hospital Friday after experiencing discomfort, the latest health scare for the 69-year-old Republican leader who has a long history of heart disease.

Cheney was expected to remain at George Washington University Hospital over the weekend, said spokesman Peter Long.

It was not immediately clear whether Cheney's health concern was related to his previous heart troubles. He sustained his last heart attack, deemed a mild one, in February.

Cheney was not feeling well on Friday and went to see his doctors at George Washington University. On their advice, he was admitted to the hospital for further testing.

Cheney's heart attack earlier this year was his fifth since age 37. A heart attack occurs when blood flow to the heart muscle is blocked. In that episode in February, Cheney underwent a stress test and a heart catheterization.

Long said he had no other details about Cheney's condition.

A face of his party for decades, Cheney has remained a prominent voice of opposition to the Obama administration. His public career spanned decades, including service as a lawmaker, defense secretary and White House chief of staff.

Cheney had bypass surgery in 1988, as well as two later angioplasties to clear narrowed coronary arteries.

In 2001, he had a special pacemaker implanted in his chest. In addition, doctors in 2008 restored a normal rhythm to his heart with an electric shock. It was the second time in less than a year that Cheney had experienced and been treated for an atrial fibrillation, an abnormal rhythm involving the upper chambers of the heart.

So many people ignore chest discomfort or not feeling well until its too late. V.P. Cheney has had many extensions of time because he trusted his gut and sought medical attention. This is a good lesson for all Americans....

OK, that is a lesson to take from this.

You mean "Americans that can afford to seek medical attention". Those that don't - well, they just expire.

MSNBC reported that Cheney had "fluid buildup related to his aggressive form of heart disease." I'm guessing that the IV medication he was given included a strong diuretic. It really depends on where the fluid was building up in his body. I'd be concerned about his kidneys and his lungs.

MediCare is bankrupting the country, just as Social Security is. they are not sustainable. They were good ideas when they began, when no one alive would be in office when the programs went to shit, now the conservatives of the era who opposed Medicare and Social Security will look like prophets when these entitlements go bankrupt. You think because MediCare has not gone bankrupt yet that it is a success. Of course it was a success when it began, not many people were on it. Liberals are still not satisfied, you think we should have single-payer! Get into the real world who will pay for it? Now correct my grammar and say something about Bush.

From today's comments made my Liz, it sounds like congestive heart failure is occurring. Having to drain off fluids around the heart.

Notice the notification beside "Post a Comment" that says "Our moderators screen these comments before they are published". Meaning that NOTHING gets posted until moderators first read and approve it.

The only other story that bears this notification is the one about the pope going off at the Belgium police for treating sex abuse by priests as a criminal matter. That ought to tell us all something.

But this probably won't get published either.

It's called congestive heart failure...prolonged heart muscle weakness can't pump sufficiently so fluid backs up; not a good thing.
