Palin: Obama Selling Out Israel

NORFOLK, Va. — Sarah Palin on Sunday painted President Barack Obama's administration as a cowering giant intent on surrendering the nation's mantle as a superpower and willing to sell out its allies.

The former John McCain running mate addressed a paying audience of several hundred people in Norfolk and accused Obama of selling out ally Israel in over its naval blockade of Gaza and treating Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu shabbily.

On May 31, Israeli naval commandos killed nine pro-Palestinian activists in clashes aboard a Turkish ship headed for Gaza, setting off a world outcry and forcing Israel to ease its three-year-old blockade.

She also said Obama lacked the resolve to stand up to Russia and China.

"Do they think, really, that we're getting anything in return for all this bowing and kowtowing and apologizing? No, we don't get anything positive in return for this," Palin said at the event spearheaded by a Norfolk talk radio station.

"So while President Obama is getting pushed around by the likes of Russia and China, our allies are left to wonder about the value of an alliance with our country any more. They're asking what is it worth," she said.

Palin, former Virginia Sen. George Allen and Iran-Contra figure Oliver North, who ran for a Virginia Senate seat and lost, each took turns decrying what they said was the deterioration of U.S. military might and will under Obama's watch.

Palin said that Obama and an allied Democratic Congress had cut military spending while showing no such restraint on other expenditures, running up trillions in new deficits.

North and particularly Allen had already whipped the crowd into a lather.

North, who lost his 1994 bid to unseat Democratic Sen. Chuck Robb, also ripped into the "potentates of pork along the Potomac and their headlong rush toward socialism."

But Allen, most clearly returned to the pugnacious, locker-room rhetoric that often distinguished the namesake son of the Hall of Fame football coach as governor in the early 1990s as he embarks on his own political comeback.

Allen has published a book for what Republicans say is a bid to win back his Senate seat from Democrat Jim Webb in 2012. Allen was a prohibitive favorite in 2006 to easily defeat Webb, but lost his re-election bid and a promising spot in the GOP presidential nomination race.

He referred to the Democrats who now control Congress as "sanctimonious, pompous social engineers" and accused them of "spending on someone else's credit card like a drunken, bloated nanny."

Obama's administration, he said, had become too fond of apologizing for U.S. military might.

"We don't need to apologize as Americans. Americans throughout history have liberated more people than any other country on earth, including the liberation of my mother from the Nazis," Allen said.

His mother, Etty, is Jewish and grew up in Tunisia. Her father had been detained by the Nazis while they occupied Tunisia. But during his campaign four years ago, Allen bristled when asked at a debate about his mother's Jewish heritage rather than acknowledging or embracing it.

That helped doom Allen's re-election bid already hobbled in August when he pointed to a Virginia-born Webb campaign volunteer of Indian descent during a campaign speech and called him "Macaca," which is a slur in some cultures.

Because Sarah Palin has the knowledge and experience to even be able to start discussing matters of foreign policy.... Laugh.

How this under-educated person ever gained any credibility among Americans is beyond my understanding. Oh, sorry, I forgot about the silent majority.

Maybe the saddest and/or most frightening thing about her Israel rhetoric is that one could conceive of a situation where that would be enough to manuever her into power, American interests be damned.

Palin is a joke and a national embarassment! How can she make comments about Pres.Obama's foreign policy decisions regarding militaristic might when she hunts with a semi-automatic weapons from a helicopter? Does she actually think that world leaders like Putin and Chavezwould have taken her seriously if she, God forbid, would have made it into office as V.P.? As an American and a woman, and a Californian, I think she should retire from politics because she provides the world with a poor example of what American women represent!

This is total nonsense. One would truly have to ignore a huge chunk of reality to take perky serious.

"Proven he is incompetent to lead?" And Palin told the NRA crowd she was proud to be a redneck! Your comment is too funny!

I can't help thinking we will be facing nuclear armageddon if she get's voted in. Didn't she think Africa was a country? Palin probably thinks Israel is in Europe or, not some colonial fortress in the middle east.

Actually, my recollection is that King George Bush II thought Africa was a country, according to a speah he gave on June 14, 2001.

Though I suppose his dellusions are not mutually exclusive of hers... carry on.

You tell 'em Sarah! A little false pride and gunboat diplomacy, and you can get us into a war of your very own. Just the thing to finish depleting our military and economic strength, and hurt our national security by alienating the rest of the world. Again.

You could start small with a police action against Mexico and all those drug dealing kidnapping job stealing undocumented illegal aliens, or go big with a nuclear strike against Iran. Yeah, a nice little world war that endangers the mid-east oil supplies would do wonders for Alaskan oil producers...at least until the oil ran out. Nothing says "military draft" like "police action" or "world war" - and think how much you could save on recruitment costs when recruitment is no longer limited to volunteers.

We could even reduce our trade deficit by becoming the Arsenal of Armageddon.

Keep the sabers rattling, you old armchair general you!

It is shameful how Obama has turned on Israel. They deserve our support.

I would pay money to punch her in the face. A lot.

Ver-r-ry in-terr-es-tink! Sarah teaming up with Macaca? Exhuming Ollie North from his pre-Vietnam hiding place? What a titillating trio! They'll make history -- right out of their overworked imaginations.
05:28 PM on 06/29/2010
Maybe Sarah could explain to us why our "selling out of Israel" is costing American taxpayers $9 million per day.

contrary to what many people feel about palin, she's no dummy when it comes to money. aside from confusing eureka illinois from eureka california, she was not confused about out of the blue defending israel for an honorarium. her timing was impeccable in criticizing america's relationship towards israel. yesterday haaretz the israeli newspaper mentioned that a poll showed 65% of jewish israelis believe american-jews should criticize their own governmen'ts position towards israel. no doubt in my mind that palin's speech in norfolk was an off spring of that poll. moreover i have a tough time understanding her brand of patriotism especially when her speech sided with a foreign power against our government.

She is a puppet. What you want to know is who is paying to say whatever she says.

Obama is a puppet. He is doing the work he was put into office for and will destroy this country if he isn't stopped. It may not be Palin, but right now anyone would be better than Obama!

Republicans' obsession with military spending speaks to 2 things: their paranoia and desire to spend us into oblivion by supporting open-ended military spending, and their kowtowing to the military-industrial complex industries. They have never moved beyond the Cold War mentality. Mr. Allen's pompous attitude that America need never apologize to anyone is pure hubris at its worse. Finally, since Palin is SO obsessed with Israel, why doesn't she move there and run for their President or Prime Minister? I do not want a President who is there to serve the interests of another country at the expense of the U.S., which is what her attitude seems to indicate she would do.

Why does a purportedly serious and progressive outlet like the Huffington Post even bother to cover anything sara palin?
03:49 PM on 06/29/2010
Who knows. Maybe because progressives want something called 'the fairness doctrine' to be followed? Maybe Huffington Post doesn't want to be hypocritical and wants to be 'fair and balanced'? ;-)

My comments were moderated away yesterday so lets see if they make it today.

Since the presidential election Palin's poll numbers have taken a nose dive as far as her favorability and competence goes. But no, no, no, the media will hear nothing of that. Just look at this web site there are at least 3 to 4 articles on the Politics page. Chris Mathews hails her as the modern day Joan of Arc. We keep saying she's not qualified, but the MSM keep telling us we know better and and we (MSM) want Sarah to be in the mix come 2012.

I've stoppped reading these articles because I've have come to recongnize what they are meant to do.

KEEP HER VIABLE FOR 2012
