Ronnie Lee Gardner, convicted of two murders in the state of Utah, was sentenced to death by firing squad, a method he himself chose. The execution was carried out last Friday. Utah attorney general Mark Shurtleff announced the event on Twitter in a series of three posts:

A solemn day. Barring a stay by Sup Ct, & with my final nod, Utah will use most extreme power & execute a killer. Mourn his victims. Justice

I just gave the go ahead to Corrections Director to proceed with Gardner's execution. May God grant him the mercy he denied his victims.

I am continually amazed by the effort Utah citizens put forth to make Utah appear the nation's laughingstock. Now, Utah's Attorney General has joined the effort. Too bad!

Twittering by the sheriff regarding the execution of Ronnie Lee Gardner was disgusting and distasteful. I am so sick of these sanctimonious religious sorts thinking their prayers for the souls of sinners negates somehow their unChristian behavior. Pray for the guy and then kill him. Sick
