Mad Men Season 4 Costumes: Janie Bryant Shows What To Expect (VIDEO)

First Posted: 07/01/10 05:48 PM ET Updated: 05/25/11 05:55 PM ET

Here at the Huffington Post, we're counting down the days until the season premier of Mad Men. Last week we showed you the Season 4 poster, and now we've found a behind-the-scenes video with costume designer Janie Bryant to see what's new in terms of the wardrobe.

"Don Draper's palate for Season 4 is getting a little darker, which I think is very important for the storytelling for what's happening to him this year," Bryant says, showing off a rack of mostly gray suits.

We've already gotten a glimpse at Peggy's new hair, but if you thought that was the only thing that changed, you are mistaken. Bryant created several new costumes for Peggy to represent her accomplishments--in terms of emotional growth and occupational achievements. "She has really come into her own, so, yes, I have reflected that in her costume design," shares Bryant. This season, Betty's style will continue to embody the idea of perfection. And lace and jewel tones will still play a key role in Joan Holloway's style, along with her signature sex appeal.

Adore this style.

I've always bought the patterns online and had my seamstress run the simple shift and short jackets up for the office.

The bet was when I bought a few 1960 patterns with me to Hong Kong.
I highly recomend this to anyone who wants a vintage look, but high quality NEW 60's suit.

this is like looking at my mother's photo album. everyone was so well dressed. even when they were casual, they were so neat and tidy...well about the "casual professional" standard at offices today.

i work at home, so i have to try hard not to be a slob. but i just love the idea of everyone being so put together.

awesome job on costume design!!!

The costumes are a star of this show. Congrats to Ms. Bryant. Each season has been a fashion thrill for many of us viewers. That outfit (not to mention the hairdo!) Betty wore in Italy should get its own Emmy.

The wiglet?

I almost died! My great-aunt wore one to balls.

We used to play with it when we small,

Love the pre-Hippy clothes. My mother had a ton of these types of clothes in her closet and got rid of them before I could appreciate them! Blast!

Oh my God...Peggy is becoming Pat Nixon!

Anyway, I think this season they need a subplot where Joan Holloway travels to California and meets Russ Meyer. Because of, um, the...uh...evolving social mores and...uh...um...what was I saying?

I graduated college in 1961..and worked in/out of NYC throughout the decade. I'm not sure my wardrobe would have "fit" into Mad Men...and I don't remember ever being as "formal" as Betty or as "surburban" as Peggy. That said...I LOVE Mad Men (especially Don) and can't wait for the new season!!

My mother dressed exactly like Betty in the early 60's.

I still have all the gloves and hats. Love them.

I have to say 60's fashion, the entire decade, is my favorite. The bags, the hats, the pointy toed pumps with kitten heels, sigh. I was born in the era, but not part of it. I wore, pouffy hair, ankle zipped jeans and booties.

Can't wait for season 4! I was a child in the '60's so anything from that decade is nostalgic for me.

I love the clothes.. My parents were very much of 1960's hip/madison avenue/UES scene....it was the beginning of the strong nuclear family, moving away from the extended family......New York was really alive then, in a way that will never be again. The 1960's were sheer glorious madness, especially in NY.
