Salmon California Oregon Avoid Sustainable

Slashfood:

For you eaters who avoid farm-raised salmon and instead seek out wild-caught varieties, your job just got a little more complicated.

According to The Oregonian, the Monterey Bay Aquarium's Seafood Watch program has assigned a red "avoid" recommendation to wild-caught California and Oregon salmon, based on continued low levels of salmon returning to the Sacramento River. While that advice may seem clear cut, the change in recommendations can be confusing.

I really don't like farmed salmon. I usually read the tags at the fish market to see where they come from. I haven't seen any Oregon or California salmon in the last two months but see Alaska. I'll ask now if it's now clearly stated.

stupid way of head lining a story, now you damage the entire states salmon industry. there are a wide variety of salmon that are south of Cape Flacon, and 99% of them have nothing to do with the migration up the secramento River, What an Idiotic way to report a story. List the species for crying out loud.

Cool - my little rant about water politics is being reviewed - but go to the Monterey Bay Aquarium site and please read up - West Coast Salmon is threatened because of a political water-grab underway, and the sooner we all understand that, the sooner we'll respect and hopefully protect this beautiful, life-giving watershed system.

That's right, folks. Wouldn't you rather eat Karl Rove sanctified sugar beets from the Oregon Klamath River Basin or have your tax dollars subsidize a club of land owners from the Westland Water District (Fresno California) who have sleazed water allotments only to re-sell them to municipalities - than know the salmon population is healthy?
Tastes good,doesn't it?
Sugar Beets vs Salmon. Think about it.

If we had food labeling for meat this would be relevant...
