Wonder Woman's New Costume: Superheroine Gets A Makeover (PHOTOS, POLL)

First Posted: 07/01/2010 8:07 am Updated: 05/25/2011 4:55 pm

Great Hera! Wonder Woman is getting an extreme makeover for her DC Comics 600th issue, the New York Times reports. She'll be swapping her blue-and-white-star hot pants for leggings and adding a midnight blue jacket to the ensemble.

Writer J. Michael Straczynski explained, "She's been locked into pretty much the exact same outfit since her debut in 1941. If you're going to make a statement about bringing Wonder Woman into the 21st century, you need to be bold and you need to make it visual. I wanted to toughen her up, and give her a modern sensibility." The new costume was created by artist Jim Lee.

Check out Wonder Woman's old gear on the left and her updated ensemble on the right:

What do you think?

Love it! She needed an update.

LEAVE it! What have they done to my superheroine?

I like it, but it's a shame they're "revamping" her whole character to go with it to make her "darker" and "grittier." What, are we back in the 90's?

It's about time she got some pants!

ummmm no. go back to the drawing board. The original is outdated yes, but the new one looks like it was thrown together in no time at all.

I personally prefer something more along the lines of this.

The new Wonder Woman looks less like an amazon than she ever did now. She looks more like an X-man or every other tough chick in action movies these days. I was never a major fan of WW's original costume but at least she had her own look. As an artist and comic book fan, I expected a little more originality for one of the first female super heroines.

Wonderwoman, about as American as Captain America.

She wears red, white, and blue, with stars. Take away any of those elements and you're taking away an essential part of what made WW so camp, fun and utterly 'American'. She can be sexy, young, athletic, or whatever, but to take away an essential part of what makes her WW, is like taking away Supermans Cape, Batmans ears, of Captain America's shield. It's like drinking coca cola out of a snapple bottle. It tastes almost the same, but somehow doesn't work as well.

Well, she's supposed to be Princess Diana, Amazonian er... princess given the power of the gods to right the injustices of the world or something. Basically she picked the US because of that super hunky dude in the army, so she adopted the US (via the back story) as the model for truth and justice. Hence, the red white and blue stuff. Doesn't really matter, the whole comic is just basically an exercise to show how awesomely better than everything in the galaxy the US is. A female version of Captain America, only slightly more subtle. And a woman.

No doubt Wonder Woman 3.0 will be clad in a burqa astride a flying horse.

Just like Burqa Barbie Doll.

Move on folks RIP Wonder Woman.

Her old uniform is probably based on an old cocktail waitress outfit.
Fine to serve drinks and collect tips....
but I wouldn't want to be crawling on floors, scraping the pavement, flipping around
in a bustier etc..etc.
A real superhero of any sort doesn't want their skin all torn up...
unless she's just serving table number #5.

I can't believe I watched that TV show. Shimmering panty hose, star-spangled hot pants? I complain about lousy TV shows now. I forgot what an artistic cesspool TV always has been.

I'm sorry, but Wonder Woman is supposed to be dressed by a total sexist. Leave the rack alone.
