Glenn Beck's Hungry For What?!?! This Week In Unnecessary Censorship (VIDEO)

First Posted: 07/02/10 10:40 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 05:55 PM ET

Jimmy Kimmel is no fan of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), the regulatory body in charge of policing the airwaves. Mocking them in his regular segment, "This Week In Unnecessary Censorship," he takes normal every day language and uses censorship to make it seem lewd or inappropriate.

This week, Jimmy gave Glenn Beck something to chew on, livened up the Kagan hearings, and proved just how crazy those Twi-hards are.

I like how hufpo uses Becks' pic to get people interested and then you watch only to find out it's not about Beck at all. Oh well, hufpo at least takes advantage of our curiosity huh.

First Wave: Expiration of 2001 and 2003 Tax Relief

In 2001 and 2003, the GOP Congress enacted several tax cuts for investors, small business owners, and families. These will all expire on January 1, 2011:

Personal income tax rates will rise. The top income tax rate will rise from 35 to 39.6 percent (this is also the rate at which two-thirds of small business profits are taxed). The lowest rate will rise from 10 to 15 percent. All the rates in between will also rise. Itemized deductions and personal exemptions will again phase out, which has the same mathematical effect as higher marginal tax rates. The full list of marginal rate hikes is below:

- The 10% bracket rises to an expanded 15%
- The 25% bracket rises to 28%
- The 28% bracket rises to 31%
- The 33% bracket rises to 36%
- The 35% bracket rises to 39.6%

Higher taxes on marriage and family. The “marriage penalty” (narrower tax brackets for married couples) will return from the first dollar of income. The child tax credit will be cut in half from $1000 to $500 per child. The standard deduction will no longer be doubled for married couples relative to the single level. The dependent care and adoption tax credits will be cut.

From Dave Johnson's blog:

When Eisenhower was president the top income tax rate was 91%. But you had to have already made a LOT of money before you hit that rate. (Eisenhower, by the way, supported that 91% top tax rate.)

That 91% tax rate is what got us out of the depression, and helped create a middle class (with the help of strong labor unions). It payed for fighting World War II and the GI Bill, and helped build our highway system, education system and other infrastructure that is in place today (albeit crumbling now from maintenance deferral resulting from tax cuts.) We did all that without borrowing, and the rich still got richer.

Think about this: If tax rates at the top were 91% today, hedge fund managers would STILL be bringing in over $300 million EACH YEAR - but the rest of us would be able to get health care, fix the roads, good schools, and the other benefits that were the reason we - yes, we - enabled this economic system in the first place.

And think about this. If that top rate is 91% it reduces the incentive for corporate CEOs to bribe politicians to put policies in place that funnel all the wealth up to the top.

Who is our economy FOR, any.

Republican trickle down theory has not worked and will not work. All it does is increase the disparity between the haves and the havenots.

I find it funny that huffpo, a discussion forum that regularly censors opinions it's moderaters don't agree with, is critisizing anybody about censorship.
01:03 PM on 07/03/2010

Unnecessary censorship is not being criticized, it is in the comedy section because it's supposed to be funny. Wow, you really didn't get that?

As for being scrubbed because moderators disagree with your opinions, I get scrubbed all the time and usually I deserve it. The P. Hilton comparison to a used vu vuzela that I composed yesterday was hilariously funny (once again, the concept of comedy), but no one got to enjoy it. Quick playing the victim, because you aren't one, and because it is such an overused and predictable tactic.
06:11 PM on 07/10/2010
Unless your comments had violated terms of service on a post, ie: bad language or something extremely illicit in an online environment that is designed for everyone then there really should be no censorship. I think the comparison you made in your reply about P. Hilton was funny and I should have been able to enjoy.

I plan on sending a protest email to ABC News about Liz Cheney being practically a regular after I finish my comments, urge others to do the same. Don't care if they care or not, a little volume in the complaint department can't hurt, anyone?

It's becoming obvious that only Rachel Maddow has the chops to challenge right wingers on Sunday talk shows. She has been on Meet The Press twice, to my knowledge, and made them squirm both times with her knowledge, persistence and calm politeness. Wish we could clone her, wonder why she's not booked more often, whatever could it be. Glenn Beck is a male Liz
Cheney with a TV show. Not much difference except gender. :(

Geez, what do you libs have against free speech? If you don't like the fact that ABC has liz cheney on don't watch but this pathetic attempt to silence everybody you don't agree with is getting rediculous.

As for rachel maddow having the "chops" for anything, LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL! You libs only like her because she tells you what you want to hear. If she had gotten that job at fox she applied for you all would hate her.

Free speech is one thing Corky. Lying, what Liz Cheney does on a regular basis, is another.

Seems to me Skunkman is promoting the idea of free speech. He and everyone else that find Liz Cheney offensive can write letters stating their opinion to ABC, CBS, Faux, MSNBC, et al. Maybe you should ask yourself what you have against freely stated opinions that differ from your own?

The percentage of tv viewers ofGlen Beck represent the ignorance percentage of the American population. That's my considered math formula. Even the Grifter Woman has a lower percentage of the idiot population ready to pay for delusions than does Nutty Glen.

Hold on folks. We're all missing the most important fact presented here this morning.

One of our Super User posters has found out the Beck is embezzling from his charity.

"bilking people of their donations to the Wounded Warrior Fund in order to line his pockets"

I'm going to report this to the IRS and FCC right away.
11:57 AM on 07/03/2010
Actually, it has been reported that the FCC is investigating.
