Rangers Fan Falls Video

A fan attending a Texas Rangers game fell 30 feet Tuesday night, delaying the game 16 minutes while medical crews attended to the victim. The fall occurred during the bottom of the 5th inning, and the frightening incident audibly shocked stadium attendees, as well as the home plate umpire (footage below).

According to MLB.com, the fan "was sitting in the front row of section 235 and was reaching for a foul that had sailed over his head and caromed back toward the field." A witness says the man lost his balance and plunged a terrifying 30 feet.

A Rangers executive says that the fallen fan was stabilized and "able to move all his extremities." The Fort Worth Star Telegram reports that four other fans were injured during the scary incident, although none required hospitalization.

Four times the Texas Rangers Usher asks a groggy, potentially drunk and disorderly Texas Rangers fan, who is laying across five seats, to sit in his assigned seat. The Texas Rangers fan only grunts and groans incoherently. The Texas Rangers Usher gets a Texas Rangers security guard who states, "If you don't sit in your one assigned seat, you're out of here!" The Texas Rangers fan only continues to grunt and groan incoherently. The Texas Rangers security guard, losing all patience, exclaims angrily, "That's it, you're out of here! Where are you from?!" The Texas Rangers fan replies in a hushed tone and with great difficultly while trying to point skyward, "The balcony."

I wonder if he tried to keep his beer from spilling while he was plunging to the seats below?

The way people go for foul balls I'm surprised this doesn't happen more often. Some people nearly lose their minds when a ball comes near them.

Hope this guy is OK.

Why doesn't the media release the raw video showing the guy falling ( I guarantee that they have one) Are they afraid that it will hurt baseball "drug dealing" reputation?

I wonder if the person who posted the clip to youtube has the express written consent of MLB to use a part of the broadcast for any purpose.

Absolutely stunning coverage of this major event. Of classic news events, first I think of Cronkite declaring Kennedy dead and right after that is these guys saying, "I'm so glad I didn't see that." I'll never forget which dining room chair I was sitting in when I saw this.

Wow -- the home plate umpire's reaction says it all. It's rare that you see something get under those guys' skin.
