Children's Author K.P. Bath Sentenced To Six Years For Child Pornography Possession

PORTLAND, Ore. — A federal judge has sentenced children's author K.P. Bath to six years in prison for possessing child pornography.

In a statement Thursday, Assistant U.S. Attorney Gary Sussman said the 51-year-old author of "The Secret of Castle Cant" and "Escape from Castle Cant" had a large collection of still images and video clips. He also traded pornographic images with at least two out-of-state collectors.

The Oregonian newspaper reports the Portland resident did not speak in the courtroom, but wrote a letter to the court complaining that government prosecutors exercised too much power.

Bath had a book scheduled for release last fall. His publisher scrapped it when the allegations surfaced.

I say:

You're absolutely right, MagCynic. State and Federal penalties for MANY crimes are way out of whack with each other. Often times state penalties for *actually* abusing a kid will get you but a few years, or even probation (!) while federal crimes for "only" possessing CP will get you several years, almost guaranteed. SHARE a few pics, no money involved, no actual abuse on your part, etc., and the "mandatory minimum" (guidelines now, thank God, but still largely followed) is 15-THIRTY years!! Shoot a victim in the face during a carjacking and you STILL get less FEDERAL time than for this! The stuff SHOULD be illegal, absolutely, and people should go to prison for dealing with it, but it's the new War on Drugs, a witch hunt with draconian federal sentences voted by gutless , electioneering members of Congress. Not to mention the hypocrisy of society that has CP-like stuff ALL OVER it, like in the movie The Hangover, where there's a scene of an actual human infant having simulated sex (masturbation) with an adult man. Not the funniest moment in what was a pretty good gross-out comedy, but I'm amazed it didn't cause more outrage.

Paedophiles stretch the genre of all walks of life. They do not all look the same and quite often are deemed sociopaths. As far as the death penalty, that of which I'm for, only if the punishment fits the crime. People want to stop these types, urge your Government to worry about shutting down sites such as NAMBLA and other kiddie porn sites.

The story didn't say anything about him being a molester only that he was in possession of kiddie porn. Granted one may be entwined with the other but they didn't appear to have any evidence against him for being a actual molester.
