LeBron James Reaction: Cleveland Fans React To Decision (TWEETS)

Huffington Post     First Posted: 07/08/10 11:42 PM ET   Updated: 05/25/11 06:00 PM ET

The first Cleveland reaction to LeBron James joining the Miami Heat has not been positive, with reports of LeBron James jerseys being burned and widespread disappointment.

Tweets have been streaming in from the blue-collar Ohio city, not far form where James grew up in Akron, ranging from disgust to more extreme comments.

Here's a collection of tweets from Cleveland reacting to LeBron James leaving (minus the most obscene anyway), posted just minutes after the decision was made live on national TV.

Are these reactions spot on or a bit much? Vote on each and let us know in the comments how you feel about LeBron James' choice.

You should have called this, people who hate their own privacy and want the world to know the random stupid thoughts they have.

The 'televised event' was for charity!

Fans - right, what type of person would not see that LeBron took less money to 'earn' a title. He fullfilled his contract (yes contract) with you. How dare anyone think that it is 'not fair' for this man to do what is in his best interest. Who amongst you would even think to open up your mouth and say differently. For a crying out loud - get life - he not taking your purchase or car-jacking you - just trying to 'earn' what any baller in the true game seeks - THAT TITLE! Don't hate that - respect it!

It's hard to respect a guy who refers to himself in the third person. Also, anyone who would create a spectacle on national television to essentially humiliate his hometown. No reason for that. Except for the obvious: He doesn't care about anyone but himself.

Honestly, he's too good a player to be stuck in Cleveland.

"Loyal Fan" turns out to be an oxymoron.

Fans don't care about players. We only care about what players do for us. But at the end of the day, we don't own them and they don't owe us their lives and livelihood.

Go to Miami, LJ and don't look back. There's nothin' to see. Gilbert and Cleveland have been very clear about what they REALLY thought of you all along.

He was a free agent. Why all the noise?

Okay loyal Cleveland fans, I agree, he didn't have to rub it your faces -- a one hour tv special was jaw-droppingly tacky. But it was a business decision and if the team owner had put the pieces in place to keep him there so that you all could possibly see your dream of a championship, things would be different. You got 7 yrs of exciting basketball and outstanding results. Some sports cities can't even say that.

I just wish y'all would put some that passion and fervor into paying attention to the political arena. Keep your politicians and political hopefuls honest, hold them accountable to what they say and do and GO TO THE POLLS when it's time to do so. We'll all be a lot better off.

Wake me when the national news resumes its focus on the man-made, earth-altering disaster going on in the Gulf. All this "emotion" over a sport? Sad to live amongst morons who place more importance on sports than their environment. Peace out, LeBron for doing what you want to do. That's what grown-ups do!!

Cleveland does not own him or anybody else, get over it.

"it's a business...."

We hear that all the time and yet so many people forget that. Folks are disappointed in the WAY LeBron broke the news .... and to that - I don't blame them. But how often does this stuff get blown waaay out of proportion? I would be surprised if it was LeBron that wanted the grand reveal as much it was likely choreographed by James' agent and ESPN which stood to gain enormously by the announcement.

Poorly played ... but the heart of the decision is just the name of the game...

To those that don't understand what this means, and think that there are more important things to worry about - Cleveland had the SECOND highest attendance in the league, that means revenue and jobs for the city, don't for one minute think thatvthia doesn't have real implications for thiose that live and work around the stadium. You wanna leave LeBron, fine. But you did it in the exact same classless fashion as the way you lose. Leaders build. Your actions in those last games, showed exactly what your true character was, and your no different than any other rich donkey's behind. You'll win in Miami, let's hope it doesn't cost you anything real important.

At first I thought Rev J. Jackson was a little off,but DAMN. Your city does not OWN him. Before Lebron how many banner seasons have the CAVS had? Its a business and they mad cause they couldnt put him on the auction block,he left on HIS terms. Cleveland this is not a good look.

Facts on Kobe

Shaq got 3 Final MVPS and would have gotten a fourth if Kobe hadn’t sabotage the Detroit/Lakers Finals because his ego couldn’t handle Shaq receiving the FINALS MVP Spot Light once again...

The only time he deserved MVP of the Finals was last year and that was because the Magic couldn't handled being on the Big Stage and completely choked... and if Boston hadn’t allowed the last two games of the Finals to be about EGOS, we wouldn’t be talking about Kobe because quite frankly people stopped talking about the Lakers the next day after the Celtics blew the finals…

More Kobe Facts

People wanna say KOBE is like Mike but do you think Jordan would have allowed himself to be shut down by Ray Allen.... The bottom-line is there is, absolutely nothing Original about Kobe Bryant, he doesn't have a style he has a Mimic...Kobe mimics his game after other players he doesn't have a game of his own... If he sees another player getting special coverage because of an outstanding game; he watches the tape of what they did and tries to beat or replica their performance the next time he is on the court... This past season when LeBron knocked down a three pointer from across the court and was featured on every highlight, the next game Kobe tried to do the same.....When Ray Allen knocked down those 8 three pointers, Kobe spent most of the Finals trying to beat Ray Allen's Record and almost cost the Lakers the Championship... With Kobe, it's all about individual accolades... When the Lakers WIN he wants all the glory but when they lose, it's always someone else's fault...

(If I were FISHER I would sign with the Heat because the Lakers weren't gonna give him anything respectable until the Miami Heat of Wade...Bosh...and James came calling, now they want to show him a little more respect....)

WARNING to all College Basketball Players with the Talent for the NBA... NEVER EVER play for the State/City or Town you grew up in (Unless that Team is the Lakers) because if you do you risk the chance of being quilted into never leaving...or it will have the potential of ruining your career "Stephon Marbury" "NY"

And this is also a WARNING to all feature Cleveland Cavalier Draft Picks ... the moment your contract expires with this team LEAVE RIGHT AWAY or you will risk the same disrespect this owner gave to LeBron James, Carlos Boozer and even the Coach Mike Brown. The only thing this Owner has ever shown respect for is his pocket book…

LeBron put this Team on the map and the Fans/and Owner acts as if they were the ones with the talent.... They will soon regret this behavior...

As stated last night, MIAMI is family orientated and has a General Manager with a lot of Class... unlike the CAVS Owner who appeared to suggest Black Mailing LeBron into staying...

let me understand you, you would have been okay with dwayne wade leaving miami for cleveland if the three decided to hook up in cleveland. I am aware that you do not understand what it takes to be a cleveland sports fan. Please do not try to understand because you have no knowledge of the history behind the most suffering city (yes more then the cub fans) in history when it comes to professional sports. It seems you are a miami fan and if that is the case then you have no business discussing our problems in North eastern ohio. You have three great players and you say has a great and classy front office, then what is your beef. because we picked on the new Miami King. Dan Gilbert had every right to say what he felt, you just did. Look we are pissed off but I can confess we knew it was coming we just didn't believe it and the way it all was revealed was A huge kick in the teeth and by the way the king of miami never notified any of the front office prior to the "decision" now that was classless. You need to look back in the history books to even begin to understand what it takes to be a cleveland sports fan.

It's now time to get over your whining....

I for one wished he had of stayed... And if Cleveland could have gotten Wade, I would have been even more excited.(He// many of my family is from Ohio so I know they are devastate... I felt that way when Shaq got traded to MIAMI and haven't like the Lakers since) ..

But' It's not LeBron's problem that this City relied on him for economical survival... he should have left when his contract was first up and then he wouldn't be dealing with this headache... But this is a warning to all College Basketball Player to never play in the state you are from... Kevin Garentt didn't and he is a better player for it... Pierce didn't and he is a better Player for it... SHAQ didn't and he is a better player for it... Magic didn't and he is a better player for it...

The Owner acts as it he were Betty Broderick and if I were LeBron I would watch my every move because this man is bitter to the core...

I would have been just fine with it. Because at the end of the day, That's that man's decision to do what's best for him. He and only HE has the talent. No the entire city. He don;'t owe anyone anything. Get over it. It's A GAME!

Collusion between Wade, Bosh, and Lebron.

Boozer just pulled the wool over the Cavs eyes
And signed with another team.
06:40 PM on 07/10/2010
the problem is not that he left. the problem is the manner in which he chose to do it.

would cleveland still have been mad if he bought them dinner before he screwed them? probably. but turning your free agency into a media spectacle, allowing 6 different clubs to fly to you and give you a sales pitch when you clearly have no intention of signing with them, and then making your own primetime tv special to announce that you are leaving? unnecessary, and cruel at the worst, incredibly naive at the best.

at the end of the day, lebron james did a lot for cleveland. he owes cleveland nothing, and they owe him nothing. there is nothing wrong with him trying his luck elsewhere. but the way he did so was classless. he had to have known that his decision would devastate cleveland, which has it hard enough in a lot of ways already. putting that decision on television, plastering it with lebron brand labels, and then hiding behind a childrens club was a nauseating display that showcased everything that is wrong with professional sports.

and to those posters who argue that we have more important things to worry about, you have a valid point. i love sports as much as anyone i have ever met, but the amount of coverage this got was disconcerting. its not like we have an oil well gushing into the gulf or two wars (remember those?) going on.
06:21 PM on 07/10/2010
its the way he left? no it isn't. Lebron could have went to every door in town and said he was leaving and everyone would still be mad
