Anadarko, Partial Owner Of Deepwater Horizon Well, Refuses To Pay For Cleanup Costs

Oil Spill

First Posted: 07/09/10 01:18 PM ET Updated: 05/25/11 06:00 PM ET

NEW YORK (AP) -- Anadarko Petroleum Corp. is refusing to pay BP about $272 million for its share of the costs tied to the massive Gulf oil spill.

The Houston-based oil company is part owner in the Macondo well that blew out on April 20 and has sent millions of gallons of oil into the sea. Spokesman John Christiansen said Friday that Anadarko informed BP of its intention to withhold payment for the bill BP sent it in early June.

So far, BP has paid more than $3 billion to deal with the spill. According to a joint-operating agreement, Anadarko is on the hook for a quarter of the costs, so BP could be sending more bills. Anadarko claims it shouldn't be held responsible because it believes BP was reckless in the drilling operation.

Yeah. There is no honor among racketeers, murderers, thieves, scammers, or their corporate equivalents, the Blackwater Petroleum's partners in the Deepwater Horizon catastrophe. We still haven't heard from Mitsui Energy or Transocean.

They knew BP was acting in a reckless manner and did nothing? Wouldn't that fall under reckless endangerment for the employees that were killed and for the damages created? You knew but did nothing... ?

Yeah. But don't tell Admiral Thad Allen or Interior Secretary Ken Salazar, or Randull Paul or Joe Barton, or Lisa Murkowski. They might be upset if they could no longer believe that BP, Mitsui Energy, Anadarko, or Transocean haven't been acting in an ethical manner.

If Anadarko knew that BP was being reckless and did nothing about it, then they bear responsibility. If the bar patron is drunk, and you know he is drunk, and you continue to serve him...

Convenient. Not only Joe Barton's biggest contributor, but a friend of all Texan Republicans, is walking away from any responsibility.

then we should send in Federal agents or troops and take into custody this companies CEO or CFO and charge them with this terrible crime. It's a damn disgusting shame that all of the leadership from Halliburton, to Trans-Ocean were not sitting besides Terrible Tony Hayward during those hearings and its a sick thing that Tony is now traveling the world trying to drum up sales and repair his reputation. he should have had his passport revoked, at the very least and not allowed to leave this country. You cant tell me that their leadership didnt know about the cost cutting methods used by people operating this well; that they didnt know that the team drilling this well called it a "nightmare well" and were going against standard operating methods. If this company, and I am not sure what extent our government works with them, but if they have contracts or licenses with this countries government then they need to be canceled, or revoked. You dont want to pay your share? Fine! But you are through working in this country!

If they were reckless enough to get into bed with BP, then they sure as heII are responsible for paying their part in the cleanup.

Bobby Jindal might as well be driving the Anadarko bus. Payment to Louisiana for damages? What damages? I don't see no stinkin' damages, except for federal government damages.

When it comes to oil companies, this indentured servant seems incapable of independent thought as he races all and sundry to salute smartly paying homage to the BP shrine, and any other Oilco shrine he can find.

This is pretty much the first instance in which I think BP is in the right! This corporation enjoys privatization of its profits, so where's its sense of responsibility?

They were both reckless.

Oil-coated sloth will hide under the lack of regulations and ability to enforce. Lawyers will get fatter, judges will go on more fossil-fuel industry paid junkets and WE WILL PAY.

Simple as that.

And sooner or later Bobby Jindal will figure how to get you to pay Louisiana's way for the next decade while he does the bidding of the oil industry.

They had to know about the safety record and were willing to take the upside-cash so should also be responsible.

Anadarko Petroleum Corp. invested in a well where BP was reckless in the drilling operation.
They should have done their due diligence and not invested.

Now the court cases begin where no one takes responsibility for this disaster.

Of course, Anadarko is going to refuse to pay. Payment would be an admission of liability and that thing called responsibility. No one in their "right" mind takes responsibility!

Oil and water samples were taken from both the Shores of Grand Isle and from 20 miles out. The preliminary analysis was done at an academic analytical chemistry laboratory. Looking for the likely pollutants from the deep water Horizon Oil spill. It was focused on the detection of benzene and propylene glycol. Benzene and other highly toxic contaminants were very low however the concentration of propylene glycol was between 360 and 440 parts per million. Just 25 parts per million is know to kill most fish and propylene glycol is just one of many ingredients found in Corexit. In short, the Gulf is being poisoned by BP’s usage of the dispersants even after the EPA asked them to stop back in May. We are willing to provide ANY respected/known laboratory these samples or provide them with more. This is very serious to all people and marine life in and around the Gulf.

Yes, the EPA was reacting to the Congressional Hearing given on Wednesday, May 19th, 2010 but they are too weak to follow through on their demands despite the impeccable source that advised them against the use of these chemicals.

What happened was that they could not find a sufficient quantity and also testing indicated that the other chemicals were not significantly less toxic.

Thank you for the information. Facts, however depressing, must be faced. I grieve for the Gulf. Fanned.
