One out of every 110 American children is born with some form of autism, a condition that has had doctors and parents baffled for generations. Debate continues over the causes of autism and the best treatment methods.
Now, families and nonprofit organizations are trying an innovative approach, which has shown great results: surfing lessons for autistic kids. The sport seems to help autistic children find not only an enjoyable hobby, but something that helps them better engage the world around them.
