A seven-year-old boy was rescued after being trapped in an underground pipe in China's Jiangsu province for over 20 hours, Chinese media reported.

It was not entirely clear how the boy fell down the pipe, which had been built to act as a well. After efforts to use a rope failed, emergency rescue team excavated the surrounding earth and worked frantically to cut through the pipe to reach the boy.

He was taken immediately to the hospital after being rescued, and medical officials say he suffered minor cuts and bruises, but was otherwise in good health.
