Denver City Councilman Doug Linkhart has proposed a ballot measure that would place an additional 6 percent sales tax on medical marijuana sold in the city to pay for youth programming.

He wants his colleagues on the council to refer the issue to the voters on the November ballot and will bring the matter before the council's safety committee, which he chairs, on July 21.

But, but.......what kind of message will we be sending the kids?????
New youth programs.
Drug dealers will be paying taxes.
Marijuana is no different than alcohol, it is for adults to use at their own discretion.
Use is different than abuse. Anything can be abused, food, religion, alcohol, marijuana. Some things can only be abused, i.e. cigarettes, heroin.
Just because something is legal doesn't mean it is good. There is no law against bulimia, for example.
Reducing harm is the goal of government, not punishment.
These are some of the messages this will be sending our kids. As opposed to the lies told by D.A.R.E., and all the public service announcements that I have heard my kids laughing at.
My kids say it is easy to get marijuana and even heroin at their high school. But they couldn't buy a beer if they wanted to. They wonder why the police have created this situation. I don't know what to tell them any longer.

Nice comment.

If we can teach our children the art of critical thinking, we can can earn their respect.
