Eight years ago I was introduced to Andy Rubin, who had started a new type of mobile phone company (Danger) and made one of the first revolutionary mobile phones: the Hiptop (was not called that in 2002). Andy had a revolutionary view of what mobile phones could become, and as a result made a revolutionary device (now owned by MSFT). This was about a year after Version 1 of the ipod was made and years before the iphone.

andy went on to help create Android and is now running that group at Google. Ironically, Andy came out of...drum roll...Apple! he left Apple so he could make revolutionary smart phones.

I trust Google less than either Apple or Microsoft. They have a vested interest in destroying all current dominant systems, and if there's anyone who's a threat to "rewrite history", it's the group that controls the most internet searches. There's a lot of cleverness in Google, but there are too many aspects to their business model which are bad for all of us.

Do you realize what you just said?? They are bad because THEY want to DESTROY Current DOMINANT systems??

That makes NO SENSE.

I guess it was ok when you thought APPLE was THE Dominant system right?? Now that apple s falling it bugs you LOL

WOW!!

Nice deconstruction of fanboy bs.

I very much trust Google MORE than Apple or Microsoft. I have a history with Microsoft so I know what I am talking about with that statement, but even they are more trustworthy than Apple.

What aspects of Google's business model disturbs you? They aren't trying to control the flow of information.

Conspicuous absence of Apple Fanboys on this thread.

This FACT filled story just DEMOLISHED about 99.99995% Of their claims.

Love facts, don't you?

That is all
08:21 AM on 07/12/2010
Uhhh, you are intense dude... what is your major malfunction? Anyway, the fact is people love Apple products because they are phenomenal, they have a huge cultural impact, and they are beautiful, despite some failings. Will anyone remember fondly the current crop of android smartphones? No, it will be the iPhone that is in the history books.
10:20 AM on 07/12/2010
SoCal is absolutely correct that Apple fanboys got demolished. That appears to be YOUR major malfunction.

Android has a future and a present. The HTC Nexus One is a gorgeous piece of hardware that puts the rest to shame. I'm not going to deny that I'm pretty much an HTC fangirl at this point. Their hardware is impressive, and they use both WM6.5 and Android on their phones.

It has now become crystal clear why Apple became so upset when their iphone4 working model was lost among the drunks at that bar a while back, namely that they were deeply affraid it would come out that the antenna design engineering mistake was a red flag transforming it into a total piece of junk. That was obviously what the infamous break-in was about -- trying to learn what they had found out. They were not at all paranoid == just very lucky, to the tune of a billion dollars. Rewriting history is Apple's basic
methodology -- sacrificing the 4th Amendment was just the cost of doing business and
foisting the junk with erroneous signal strength indicator down the public's throat ===

Steve Jobs also rewrote MY history. First, he put me out of business.
Then, he enabled me to re-invent myself.

Given the near universal recognition of the superiority of Android's new 2.2 system, it is no wonder Apple the loser has sought to falsify the historical record to the degree it has. Sour grapes losers are distasteful to everyone, and it was no doubt sour grapes desperation that underlies the dumping of iphone 4 on more than a million people when they knew full well
the antenna design was a monumental error. Android is king, top performer. By the end of summer it will become the standard, and by the time version 3.0 come around leave
Apple in the dust, hardly a memory.

So because Apple didn't announce it's iPhone before Google bought Android, Google is right. Hmmm I am not so sure of the logic of that. Just because Iphone wasn't announced doesn't mean it wasn't being developed. Just look at how long it took Google to finally get it's first Android based phone out there and it bought the Android operating system from someone else. Iphone was released before the Android. If you look at when google bought Android and when they made phones and apply the timeframe to Apple, then it's certainly possible that Apple may have been contemplating a phone before Google was.

Difference between Apple and everybody else - they take existing products, make them gorgeous, make them user friendly, and then market the hell out of them.

Difference between Google and everybody else - they think of products that are missing in our lives.

I would love to see an Android phone after Apple engineers had smoothed out all the rough edges. That would be a thing of glory.

Androids were built from the ground up as mobile OS, and have superior specs to Apple. You have it upside down -- Apple engineers with the iphone4 designed something which has stained
Apple's reputation. The move to Android is now unstoppable, guaranteed. iPhone 4 as
phone fatal.

LOL PURE DRIVEL

Droid is CRUSHING Apple all on its own... they will ask apple for help when they need it NOT to work.

Your denial of recent REALITY is THICK in your post
03:50 AM on 08/15/2010
Wow, I'm kind of surprised that you are a moderator. Opening up a reply with "pure drivel" seem inflammatory and not very conducive to meaningful conversation.

Additionally, I think you missed the gist of my post. I own a Motorola Droid and wouldn't trade it for an iPhone for any reason. However, I would love it if the corners were smoother, and the interface was a little less finicky, perhaps a bit lighter, a better designed keyboard...these are the things that Apple does really well.

We already had a bevy of MP3 players on the market. Why do so many people pay 2x or 3x the cost to get an iPod? The underlying tech is pretty much the same, but it looks better and has a more intuitive interface.

Your last line doesn't make sense to me, what denial, what reality or you in or referring to, and since my original post is only a few lines - how could anything be thick in it?

One can say something that isn't true. If one knows it isn't true, then one is lying. If one believes it is true, one is wrong. Either way, one is not "rewriting history".

That is revisionist history, at it's best!

"Fortune has put together a timeline of the Android/iPhone relationship, showing that Google purchased the Android platform in August 2005, a full year before Schmidt joined Apple's Board of Directors and nearly a year and a half before Apple officially announced the iPhone. According to the report, an Apple insider claims that the relationship between Apple and Google did not begin to deteriorate until Google and T-Mobile finally introduced the G1, the first Android-based handset, in September 2008."

Thanks for that. It is time to tell the truth. Apple claims to be the pioneer of so many things, but when you look into history, they rarely innovate. They just have a better advertising strategy and millions of worshipers.

I wonder if in Steve Jobs's world he has the HP/Windows Mobile as the first true smartphones, the Diamond Rio as the premier of the digital/Mp3 music player, and the Windows Tablet PC as the first true tablets a la iPad? Or has his lordship rewritten the rules to where Apple invented this all?

The only thing Apple has done is target the consumers, where as for both Windows Mobile and Tablet these were primarily manufactured for the enterprise, of which tends to get ignored. In 2001 we had HP tablets, along with Ipaq phones in our office, and I personally owned a Diamond Rio Mp3 player. Thanks Steve, but as usual you were late to the party. Congrats on getting the sheep to mindlessly follow you into believing that Apple is a creator, rather than follower. And please, do not even get me started on that epic fail called Apple TV.
