LONDON — Fashion model Naomi Campbell says she will testify at the war crimes trial of former Liberian president Charles Taylor.

Taylor is accused of supporting the rebels in Sierra Leone's 11-year civil war in exchange for diamonds and other natural resources. He denies trading in the so-called "blood diamonds."

Prosecutors at Taylor's trial in The Hague have summoned Campbell to testify later this month about reports that she received diamonds from Taylor during a 1997 reception in South Africa.

The Outside Organization, a public relations company that represents Campbell, announced on Friday that Campbell would testify. Her appearance is scheduled for July 29.

So, I've got a betting pool going.

What do you think she's going to throw?

Supposedly, she not only received blood diamonds from Taylor but she received one of the largest
blood diamonds there is.

What I want to know is how she got away with refusing to go to the war crimes tribunal when they've asked her to go a billion times and she's avoided going. Can someone tell me how she avoided going and didn't get prosecuted? Could she get prosecuted?

Does Campbell still own those diamonds she got from Taylor? Just curious.

She claims in one interview that she gave it to one of her charities but she ended up giving them the money instead. Who knows.

The main thing that endears the United Nations to member governments, and so enables it to survive, is its proven capacity to fail. You can safely appeal to the United Nations in the comfortable certainty that it will let you down.

Ultimately diamonds are NOT a women's best friend......those who wear them and those who don't. Diamonds are the best friends only for diamond dealers and that is the sole/soul truth of it.

I'll admit Naomi Campbell can go bat crazy, but she's still undeniably beautiful.

Oh, im so happy you think she is "undeniable beautiful" with that blood diamond hanging around her head....well i guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Of course she gave the blood diamond money to help those who had their hands cut off.....Im sure she did....

Well, taking a longer view, I would argue that the vast majority of diamonds (and pearls) walking down the streets of America are appropriately called "blood diamonds".

That said, ethical or not, she's beautiful.

ok, with all respect, I must say: a lifetime career of fake hair and colored contacts...no one knows what she REALLY looks like...not even her

Redemption Song: it would be lovely to see her in dreads; alas she doesn't have hair

I think she'd actually be beautiful if she allowed herself to actually LOOK like her true self

Hmmm...well, first, with regard to fake hair (and fake nails), she's not alone in the neighborhood (if you get my meaning), and given the prevalence of Botox and silicone in the entertainment business, she's holding her own, relatively speaking; second, as far as my tastes are concerned bald heads are attractive--on men or women--only when they have well-shaped heads (and maybe she does not); third, I wear my hair natural, sometimes in twists, sometimes pulled back in a knot, because it's managable (although not everyone's hair is) and although I don't throw money after my head, "to each her own" (i.e., I don't care that she has straight hair); and fourth, everyone has a right to be and feel attractive, (i.e., any bald woman who wants a wig should have one, as far as I'm concerned).

So, I dunno, SeaChild: I'm no fan of Naomi Campbell's, but I'm simply not moved to disparage her.

Peace Sister,

Please liberals, list me Bush's "war crimes" as defined by the Geneva Conventions, not your fever dreams.

Well I'd start with the treatment captives received in the CIA secret prisons and waterboarding but since LOO and the WH invented their own interpretation of torture so I'm not sure there's a point in trying with someone who is obviously not really interested in discovering the truth as much as he is in reinforcing the POV of his own "fever dreams".
