iPhone 4 Commercials (VIDEO): Watch Apple's New Ad Campaign

Huffington Post     First Posted: 07/12/10 11:34 AM ET   Updated: 05/25/11 06:00 PM ET

Apple promised the new iPhone 4 would "change everything, again." While it remains to be seen how the smartphone will shake things up in the mobile market, the tagline certainly holds true for Apple's advertising.

Following in the footsteps of "Think Different," "Get a Mac," and the iconic iPod ads, Apple has unveiled a series of stirring new iPhone 4 commercials featuring classic Hallmark moments framed by FaceTime, the iPhone's video chat feature. In the set of "heartbreaking" commercials, we see a newborn meeting her grandfather; a teen showing her dad her new braces; and a couple's discovery that they're going to have a baby.

So far, the ads had been well-received. "The ads are pretty effective-not too mawkish and very simple-delivering a clear product message about FaceTime, perhaps the iPhone 4's most marketable feature," writes All Things D. Fortune calls Apple's initial iPhone ad a "one-minute masterpiece of emotional manipulation."

What do you think of the new ad campaign? See the ads below, then tell us what you think in the comments below. Are they cliche or cool? Sappy or sweet?

Outside the "grip of death" issue which is real I have tried it, but I have to admit who holds their phones that way, the facetime feature is great. I tried it this past weekend and was quite pleased and the ads are an accurate representation of the quality btw. I'm a PC guy through and through, my one Apple vice is their iPhones. The ads were great and had I not tried facetime on my own phone in real life, I wouldn't believe them like some of you either, but it's real, and would be better if it worked over 3G as well. Oh well....

The first half of the video was creepy. "To Catch A Predator" anyone?

Well now I feel like such a chump for not having a professional lighting crew, steadycam image stabilization, and a NASA-quality Internet connection for all my touching, family moments.

lol... It looks, runs and sounds just fine in real life using a public free wifi connection let alone a locked down home wifi network.

Lastly, is it reasonable for a grandfather, who probably won't use the phone for its smart phone features (other than Facetime here) to have a new iPhone 4, pay for a relatively high data plan and get mediocre video conferencing? Attn: Grandparents, teach your children to save like back in the old days and use Skype - it looks better and it's free.

"I'm not laughing at your lame singing, dad. I was just laughing at the fact that I can't hear half of what you're saying because you're not holding it correctly."

I don't know if it's their voices or if it is just watching over someone's shoulder (who's having a one-to-one conversation) but the ads just seems creepy.

Oh look, more Free Apple advertising by HP - just in time to counter that other report on the IPhone 4 design flaw. Shocking that.

Oh Stevie J, what would you do without HP here to freely flog your stuff for you.
I wonder when the new Droid smartphone will get their daily raft of free adverts by HP on these pages masquerading as news?

Consumer product objectivity does not exist in this dojo,

I fully understand that the majority of people on this website hate all corporations, but these ads were very good and original. Especially the black father/grandfather ad.

Heartbreaking? Is that it?

Come on, the 2 wars we are fighting, our impotent government controlled by corporations, and the oil gushing into our country's shore is heartbreaking. This is much more than that. The 3 things I just mentioned look comedic compared to these heartbreaking dramas called advertisements. Well done Apple for changing our lives AGAIN with your so brilliant and now HEARTBREAKING advertising!

Well, I guess we have finally replaced all reason for being in the same place at the same time with technology now.

This is another advertising campaign that is designed to market a 'want' as a 'need.' I am not surprised.

P.S. - Heartbreaking? Save that word for truly heartbreaking things. Sheesh!

Wow, these ads are just as annoying as apple has become.
