Congressman Luis Gutierrez: 'I Do Google, I Know How To Get On The Internet' (VIDEO)
Twitter, Facebook and other social networking sites are becoming increasingly popular among politicians seeking to enhance how they communicate with constituents. Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-Ill.), a fierce advocate for immigration reform, might be a little slow getting on that train, however -- but he appears to be doing his best.
"Congressman, do you tweet?" Gutierrez was asked on C-SPAN Wednesday morning.
"No, I don't," Gutierrez quickly responded. "I still didn't have a cell phone when most of America already had a cell phone," he continued, admitting that he had a tendency to be behind the curve on technology.
"But I do Google, I do know how to get on the internet," Gutierrez proclaimed proudly. "I got a Facebook, but I do have to say its managed by my office staff. They're doing really good because it's allowing me to communicate with more people."
Here's the rub: Even though Gutierrez says he doesn't tweet, he actually does have a Twitter account, which he advertises from on his Facebook page.
And to Gutierrez's credit -- or apparently the credit of his "staff" -- his Facebook page is doing pretty well. Though it only has slightly more than 3,000 fans -- far short of political superstars such as Sarah Palin, who is closing in on two million fans -- Gutierrez's followers seem to provide a lot of feedback, which means that the channel for communication is open and flowing.
