'Tere Bin Laden,' Indian Film With Osama Lookalike, Banned In Pakistan

First Posted: 07/16/10 10:48 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 06:05 PM ET

A new Bollywood caper featuring a lookalike of Osama bin Laden has been banned from a Pakistani cinematic release due to security concerns.

Titled "Tere Bin Laden" (or "Without You Laden"), the film is billed as a slapstick comedy, starring Pakistani pop singer Ali Zafar in the role of a television journalist who films a video with an actor who resembles the al Qaeda leader in an effort to gain residency in the United States.

Distributors said Pakistani censors had not found anything objectionable in the film's content, but feared the title could be misconstrued by Islamist extremists as a pretext for attack.

The movie remains scheduled for release Friday in Malaysia, India and other countries including Britain.

I had a dream in a dream in a dream in a dream that either he is dead or is under the custody of CIA which tapes him threatening the West, whenever anti-terrorism budget is under review in the Congress.

A slapstick comedy about terrorism. I hope they make sequel about the Mumbai attacks. It should be a life riot.

It's a slapstick comedy about a terrorist LOOKALIKE!!
I didn't hear any objections to Hot Shots Part Deux - it had a Saddam Hussein lookalike there, right? No objections to Inglourious Basterds - bumbling Hitler lookalike.
And what's a "life" riot? Is it like a prison riot, where only lifers do all the damage?

It'll be a gala success in India for sure...

I don't recall Jews or Christians upholding Lot as "the best example for mankind" of conduct to be emulated.

"Titled "Tere Bin Laden" (or "Without You, Bin Laden")"

"Tere Bin Laden" means "your Bin Laden", not "Without you, Bin Laden".

In Urdu, Bin means without; so Tere Bin Laden could also mean without you Laden.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In English there are many Synonyms for Bin:

Generally it stands for something to store things is like a drawer--- So, Tere Bin Laden"
can be "Your Drawers Laden", Which then can be interpreted to be-- Your underwear Laden. :)

Yep, it's an intentional pun on the part of the filmmakers.

I see someone beat me to it. Yes there was a little fun had there with the Urdu.

And, this wouldn't be the first Bollywood film with a questionable theme.

At least Ali Zafar could do his own playback.

They found it! A sense of humor! It's been missing for a long time, but it was a relief to see that it has not disappeared.

Would that the actuality could be that lighthearted. Isalmics, come to the negotiation table! Get some leaders who are not declaring a fatwah on men's hairstyles and freedom of speech. Then, maybe you will look like actual players instead of terrorists, whose presence we are no longer willing to tolerate, if you have informed yourselves on the Netherlands' Geert Wilders recently started campaign against Islam. Extremists have made this come about, and the continent will find that the movement will catch fire due to Europe's desire to rid itself of any group whose main tenet is using fear to gain acceptance. Acceptance is gained by earning trust and respect, assimilating into a community, and being a good neighbor.

Christianity too -- there have been Christian religious sects that banned music.

As well, women braiding their hair, having their heads uncovered, it is a property of all 3 Abrahamic religions.
